The Story Behind The Plate
This documentary is extremely important to me as it portrays my father’s life and how he successfully opened a restaurant with the help of his brothers. When filming this documentary I was able to practice the process of interviewing a person. In addition, I strongly feel that the editing process of this documentary allowed me to learn new editing techniques such as : color correcting, subtitles, transitions, scaling and speed. This documentary was my final project for my VAT171 course in which we were asked to film our own choice of film. Having previously filmed a documentary in the same restaurant I wanted to use what I had learned during class to improve my filming and editing style. Not only did I get to learn more about my father but in addition it made me realize all his struggles and dedication to provide for my family and I. It made me appreciate all his work and is a reminder of why I do filmmaking , to share peoples stories and connect with them.
Christian’s Story
This documentary is a project for my VAT 171 course. Our task involved writing down questions to learn how to properly interview an individual while also filming. I was able to practice lighting, sound and camera directing on this film. My favorite part of this project was the editing portion. I had the opportunity to learn not only how to transcribe a video but also how to create captions when translating. I expanded my editing skills by practicing video effects, color effects and audio effects.
Rescued
This project was my very first documentary. During my junior year of High School we were asked to work in groups to create a documentary. My teacher Mr. Harchol thought us how to frame an interview, prepare interview questions and the importance of filming B-roll. I worked with Masha Norman, who inspired us to shine light into the importance of adopting pets rather than buying. With the help of DeMarie Otero, Bradley Caro and Dereck Marquinez we filmed this project. This is my final edited version of our documentary. I’ve used the knowledge that I received while working on project to create my most recent documentaries ; The Story Behind The Plate and Christian’s Story.
