After Effects

During my last semester at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, I have taken a Introduction to video graphics course. This course has allowed me to have a clear understanding of Abode After Effects and how to properly use its tools to create a variety of projects.

Public Service Announcement

Parallax Effect

For this project I practiced using the camera in affter effects, I was having a hard time at first but found a project that made me passionate to learn this technique. I was born in New York City, however, my family is from Mexico therefore I chose to make a project that connects me to my roots. I used the pen tool in photoshop to ceperate the pyramid and moon from the original image and filled the background with a blue sky. Using the camera tool I played around with the position agfter making all my layers 3D. I then added a song that reminds me of Mexico and overall I am happy with the results. I plan on practicing more to perfect this technique.

Green Screen

Opening Title Sequence

For our Midterm in this course we were assigned to create an opening title sequence using the techniques that we learned throughout the semester. I chose to animate an opening title sequence for the show Grey’s Anatomy. The show itself is very sad and serious. Which is why for my project I decided to make a different version. My goal was to portray what Grey’s Anatomy would look like if it were to be a comedy show instead using the theme song from the show Brooklyn 99. I created solid layers, practiced gaussian blur and even tried freezing a frame for the first time.

Holiday E-Card

When asked to create a Holiday E-card using After Effects I decided to create an invitation to my birthday. I used this as an opportunity to practice the new techniques we learned in class. I use the puppet tool to make the flames move and used the pen tool to create mask around the balloons and cake. I also practiced animating text to come into frame from different angles.

Song Animation

For this project I decided to animate the lyrics to one of my favorite songs ” Meet me at the spot” by Willow Smith. I used a a lot of new effects such as 4-color gradient, turbulent displace and star burst. I personally enjoyed trying out these new techniques and look forward to applying them in future projects.

Futuristic User Interface

The inspiration for my FUI project was the movie Grand Turismo directed by Neil Blomkamp. In the movie there are a lot of effects that captured my attention. When I noticed during class that I would learn how to do something similar, I was beyond excited as I have developed a passion for cars over the last two years and was eager to learn designs I could apply to my project. I used many techniques such as, animating shapes, using the pen tool to create lines, splitting layer and duplicating layers. I enjoyed trying new techniques such as using trim paths, pucker and bloat, repeaters and my favorite was learning how to blur text and using the glow effects. With previous knowledge of film editing I decided to add fade in and fade out effects as well as credits towards the end to wrap up my edit.

Count Down Animation

For this project we were asked to make a countdown animation in order to practice different editing techniques. Since Valentines day was right around the corner when working on this project, I decided to create a countdown for the special day. I was able to practice splitting and duplicating layers, adding text and practicing the different types of modes that After Effects offers.

Logo Animation

This project may only be 9 seconds long but I am very proud of it. Here we were asked to create an 8-10 second animation of a logo using ; video footage, a logo PNG and adding music. This was my first time learning how to use key frames to rotate and position the logo.

Self Portrait GIF

Our first assignment in this course was to create a self portrait GIF. After choosing three different selfies we had to first upload our pictures to Adobe Photoshop in order to remove the background. We then created a background using the color of our choice. After turning our images into PNG’s we opened our project onto after effects, where we learned how to make our image move per second. When I first began this project I was very scared to work with After Effects but this was only the beginning of my experience.
