Gardening 101 with AATC’s Staci Siegel
As self-proclaimed introvert, some days I find interacting with people and providing daily customer service somewhat draining. You are always “on” and must be an active listener and be present. Some days you wonder what impact you might have had. With this being said, I have always felt connected to nature and enjoy spending time outside. At a young age, I was exposed to the art of gardening. Standing in soil and working the land enables me to feel more in tune with our natural world. Getting my hands dirty and planting seeds provides much stress relief. In due time, the fruits of my labor become visible. To witness the evolution from a few seedlings to turn into a fully bloomed vegetable plant is quite an awesome sight. It also brings a great sense of satisfaction. This activity has proven long term health benefits such as lowering blood pressure, provides a good source of exposure to Vitamin D, strengthens your bones, promotes healthier eating, and boosts your mood. All in all, I feel more energized, grounded, and more connected to a higher level. I hope you enjoy my brief introduction to Gardening.

Nailing It! with CUNY EDGE’s Mayulie Luciano
Something that sparks joy for me is giving myself a weekly manicure/pedicure. Now that most businesses are closed, I practice self-care by taking 20-30 minutes out of my day to put on some music and take my time perfecting my manicure/pedicure. I usually have the privilege of going to a nail salon and getting pampered but these days I am finding comfort as well as some peace and tranquility in being able to sit down, take my time, be patient with myself and enjoy the process. Doing something for myself, by myself, has been extremely rewarding and seeing the final product makes me feel great! I was able to purchase a nail kit that has helped tremendously and now I am looking forward to doing my own nails (and maybe even others) post COVID-19.

Chillin with my Blog with AATC’s Juanteshia Christian
Self care is about focusing on yourself and the things that make you happy. One creative way to do this is by translating your interests and the things you are passionate about, into a blog! Blogging allows you to share your thoughts on the topics you enjoy, while getting creative with your site and connecting to others! In this session, you will learn how to get the process started, explore blog ideas, learn how to make your blog creative and view a blog launched by one of your BMCC colleagues during the pandemic (which has been a big factor in improving her mental health).

Photography Tips to Enhance your Creativity with ASAP’s Sharon Marazzo
This transition has been a lot for all of us. One thing that helps me feel better is taking walks to get some fresh air and actually see people out in the world. Being isolated at home can be heavy, so the walks help me explore my surroundings and get some exercise and fresh air. I keep my distance from people and wear a mask, but I do believe it is very important for self-care to go outside. Also, because this situation is so unique and surreal, I also like to take pictures of things I see on my walks to have a visual record of what is going on right now. Here are some of my images.
