1. Which statistic on wealth inequality in the U.S. (discussed on p. 29) made the biggest impression on you? Explain why.
The statistic that the top 1 percent of households own more wealth than the bottom 90 percent combined made the biggest impression on me. This is shocking because it shows how much money is controlled by just a few people. It also makes it clear that most people have very little compared to the richest, which is unfair.
2. What could be some of the implications of living in a society that has such huge wealth inequalities? Do you see this dynamic getting played out in everyday life in our society? How so? Example?
Living in a society with so much wealth inequality can make it hard for people to improve their lives. People from lower-income families may have fewer chances for good schools, healthcare, or good jobs. I see this in real life when housing costs are very high. Many people have to work two jobs just to pay rent, while rich people can buy expensive apartments and neighborhoods easily. This shows how wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few and affects everyday life.
