Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your patience regarding the details of the upcoming transition from Blackboard to Brightspace. Last week, our campus team participated in a CUNY-hosted kick-off event and can now share the following information:
- BMCC will run its first courses in Brightspace in Summer 2024. Until then, courses will continue to be taught in Blackboard.
- Training for a small number of BMCC staff began last week and will run through the end of September.
- Training for faculty will be offered by CUNY and BMCC beginning in late fall and continuing throughout spring and summer 2024 (and beyond).
- CUNY will automatically migrate two years of course content from Blackboard to Brightspace. They are currently testing this process with 70 courses and will be providing additional information about the process once this testing is complete.
- All third party tools that we have access to in Blackboard (e.g., Hypothesis, VoiceThread, Turnitin, Ally) will be available in Brightspace. In addition, Microsoft Teams will be integrated with Brightspace.
We will continue to share information about the Brightspace transition as it is communicated to us by CUNY. Feel free to reach out to us at lmstransition@bmcc.cuny.edu if you have any questions.
All the best,
Gina Cherry, CETLS Director
Gail Fernandez, Acting Associate Dean of Faculty
Tom Harbison, Director of Digital Education
