Contribute to the BMCC Reads Blog!

Do you want to share a review of a book with the BMCC community? Do you want to share reflections on your experiences as a reader? If so, please contribute a post to our blog! Read the Writer Guidelines and use the Submission Form below.

Writer Guidelines

  • We welcome posts from any and all members of the BMCC community!
  • We are looking for two kinds of posts.
    1. We are looking for reviews of all kinds of books in the BMCC Library’s collection.
      • Books for children and young adults
      • Comics and graphic novels
      • Poetry
      • All genres of fiction
      • Nonfiction for general audiences
      • And more!
    2. We are also looking for posts in which you reflect on your experiences as a reader, such as “Reading on the MTA.”
  • Posts may be as short as 250 or so words or as long as 750 or more words.
  • Please write in an informal, conversational style, as though you were speaking to a friend.
  • In book reviews, be sure to name the title of the book and its author. Please also identify the book’s publisher and/or ISBN in the Submission Form below.
  • Feel free to include relevant links in your post. For example, if your post is about a story or article, you might want to link to the piece if it is available online.
  • BMCC Reads editors will obtain cover images of books for reviews. If there is another image that you would like to use in your post, please provide it with your submission below.
    • If the image you want to use is not one that you created yourself, please be sure that you have permission to use it.
    • You can find suitable images at Flickr, The Met, or Unsplash, among other sources.
    • If you do not supply an image for a post that is not a review, the editors will find a suitable image to include with your post. So if you’re stumped, don’t worry—we’ll take care of it!
  • Please use the Submission Form to let us know if you want to be acknowledged by name, use a pseudonym, or remain anonymous. You may include a bio that is up to 3 sentences long and an author image—a current photo or avatar.
  • You retain the copyright to any of your posts published on the blog, but we ask you to select a Creative Commons license to give permission to others to share and/or adapt the post. The licenses we suggest are CC BY 4.0, CC BY-NC 4.0, CC BY-ND 4.0, and CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. All of these licenses require others to give you credit when they share your work. Please consider what kind of permissions you want to give, and then use the Submission Form to tell us what you want, or if you need help deciding.
  • Finally, please note that posts will be reviewed and edited by the BMCC Reads editors. We will be in touch if we have any questions and also to let you know when your post will be published.
