Adams Rakmel – Introduction (D1)

My name is Adams Rakmel Yakubu. My major is sociology. I was born, raised, and bred in Ghana. I come from the northern region of Ghana, of which the capital is Tamale. I grew up in a very slummy neighborhood. It is my first year as a bmcc student, and my major is sociology. I am a very open person, and I like been outdoors more. My favorite thing to do is play soccer or go hiking, but I love soccer more since I grew up playing the sport. At one point, I thought I would be a professional soccer player, well, it is never too late, and we are deemed not to give up on dreams. I started kicking the soccer ball since I was eight and, I have always loved the sport. I have played in many juvenile leagues and won many accolades. I have been fortunate to play professional soccer in South America.
Anyway, my soccer career has ended, and I’m now on a different career path. I work with the International Rescue Committee. I’m a strong advocate for human rights and social justice. I have always wanted to work in the non-profit sector as a kid, and now I am happy to have this opportunity at the IRC to grow as a professional and individual. I want to get my bachelor’s in political science, majoring in international relations and nation-building. My desire to see the world become a better place for everyone leads me into this area. If we use the limited time we have on this earth to serve others and make life better, only then will we feel we have accomplished something.
