My name is Adams Rakmel Yakubu. My major is sociology. I was born, raised, and bred in Ghana. I come from the northern region of Ghana, of which the capital is Tamale. I grew up in a very slummy neighborhood. It is my first year as a bmcc student, and my major is sociology. I am a very open person, and I like been outdoors more. My favorite thing to do is play soccer or go hiking, but I love soccer more since I grew up playing the sport. At one point, I thought I would be a professional soccer player, well, it is never too late, and we are deemed not to give up on dreams. I started kicking the soccer ball since I was eight and, I have always loved the sport. I have played in many juvenile leagues and won many accolades. I have been fortunate to play professional soccer in South America.
Anyway, my soccer career has ended, and I’m now on a different career path. I work with the International Rescue Committee. I’m a strong advocate for human rights and social justice. I have always wanted to work in the non-profit sector as a kid, and now I am happy to have this opportunity at the IRC to grow as a professional and individual. I want to get my bachelor’s in political science, majoring in international relations and nation-building. My desire to see the world become a better place for everyone leads me into this area. If we use the limited time we have on this earth to serve others and make life better, only then will we feel we have accomplished something.

  1. Hello Adams,
I am glad to meet you in this class. Being optimistic is one of my principal thing in my life as you said ” we are deemed not to give up on dreams”. I am sharing the same opinion because I believe never give up is the key to be a successful person in life. I wish you will achieve your goals and become the person that you want to be.

    1. Thank you so much, Yasmina. Yes, success comes to those who never give up. I wish you nothing but a great semester and success in everything that you do. Maybe one day our paths will cross; we will never know, but until then, let’s enjoy this beautiful class.

  2. Hi Adam,
Great intro, I find your passion for soccer to be great and I share the same sentiment when it comes to track and field. Even though your soccer days might be over, you can still do it for fun when you find the time. I am a big believer that when it comes to one’s dream, no one should ever give up because dreams do come through. I wish you all the best in your endeavors and let us have a great semester.

    1. Thanks for the encouragement, Dwayne. We shall overcome someday. Let’s enjoy this great class together. Good luck, and I’ll always be available for a chat or discussion should you ever consider or think of it.

  3. Hi Adam, I really liked the part where you said “At one point, I thought I would be a professional soccer player, well it is never too late, and we are deemed not to give up on dreams” because I feel like its motivational and you’re right its never too late to do anything especially achieving your dreams like you could be old and still become successful all you have to do is put your mind to it, not give up, not doubt yourself, and keep trying.
