The assignment that I feel was the most successful was Essay 1. This assignment was an analysis a sample student essay. I found this to be an incredibly helpful exercise because it pointed out the things that I should be aware of when writing my essays, and pushed me to refer back to the class guidelines more than I likely would have without this assignment.
I definitely could have done better on Quiz 3: Format and Insertion of Quotations. Even though I had the materials to review to answer the questions – I didn’t take notes on those materials so trying to find the exact answer I needed was difficult in the moment.
Something I learned this semester is to try not to rush through any assignments. Having ADHD it’s easy for me to want to just speed through something and get it done quickly, which causes anxiety for me. It’s more beneficial for me to set up a little time here and there to work on an assignment rather than trying to do it all in one sitting!
Hey Daryen, thanks for sharing! I agree that Essay 1 was super helpful—it showed us what to do and what to avoid. I also found the quizzes tricky when I didn’t take notes, so I get what you mean about Quiz 3. I really respect how honest you were about your ADHD. Breaking work into small steps is a great idea, and I think it helps everyone stay less stressed. You’re doing great, and your strategy sounds smart!
Daryen, thank you for the candid comments and self-assessment. I loved your Essay 1, and I think it is a very instructive assignment. It requries students to read carefully on multiple levels. Your realization that it’s better to take time with essays rather than rushing or leaving them for the last minute is the best advice I could give anyone. When we’re pressed for time, we get stressed. And when we get stressed, we don’t think as clearly or logically as we should (and can). Thanks for always including a wonderful graphic. The rose is a perfect final image!
