Bruno Bettelheim believes that “Little Snow White” is really about how a young girl grows up and becomes more mature. He talks about the growth and maturation of Snow White. He emphasizes her development and journey towards maturity as a central theme in the tale. Anne Sexton’s version of the story is different because it focuses more on the feelings and emotions of Snow White. She explores the sadness and pain that Snow White goes through, which the original fairy tale doesn’t talk much about. In Sexton’s version, Snow White’s experiences are more somber, and her relationship with the prince is portrayed in a more complex and emotional way. It’s like she’s diving deeper into the emotional side of the story.

I agree that it seems like Sexton’s retelling had emotional depth. I really like what Sexton had to add to the story in terms of imagery. I also think that in Bettelheim’s analysis he lumped all fairy tales together giving them all similar traits. But in reality many modern fairytales that we know today originate from different places across Europe, so they may not all have this cycle of rebirth and maturity that he speaks of.
Ajay, thanks for the comments. The Sexton poem also looks at the objectification of women and the overemphasis placed on feminine beauty, yes?
Well done on your response. I understand and agree with the notion that the retelling by Sexton was much more focused around the emotional aspect that draws many to the fairy tale to begin with. I believe Sexton’s version is much more imaginative and in line with what many think of when talking about a fairy tale.
Hey Ajay rai I agree with you that this story referes to the story that how young girls grow up and get mature. I really like bith the stiry they are very deep story what you think about the story.
