I have just posted our next module. This coming week, we’ll be working on Module 2.

  1. Southern racist politicians used the idea of “law and order” to justify keeping racial segregation. They did this because it made their actions seem okay and normal to people. By talking about “law and order,” they made it sound like they were just trying to keep things calm and prevent problems. This way, they could get support from white people who were afraid of changes and wanted things to stay the same.

    The Southern Strategy, which was a plan by some politicians to win votes in the South, still affects American politics today. Some politicians still use words and policies that make people worried about safety and crime, often targeting certain groups like immigrants or people of color. This strategy has led to unfair treatment of these groups in areas like the legal system and job opportunities. So, even though the days of open segregation are gone, the effects of this strategy still shape how politics work and can lead to unfairness for certain people.
