Clare Kutsko Discussion #1

My name is Clare Kutsko. I am in my final credits at BMCC towards a AA in Psychology. I am majoring in Psychology with an end goal of being a therapist, which has been a dream of mine for many years.

I am in school part time, taking anywhere from 1-3 classes a semester, as I am already in a career as an Interior Designer. Which I have been doing for 10+ years now. I have had some amazing jobs and have learned a lot in this field, as you do with any professional experience. One important thing I have learned is how to connect the dots to understand what lead me from one interest to another, and how to identify those strengths that can be utilized to help me in my next chapter.

Working with others and developing the ability to communicate, pay attention to people’s needs and wants, and have a genuine desire to continue to improve upon what you bring to a work environment are all extremely valuable skills that I can apply throughout my life.

I also have really enjoyed being in school, I love to learn new things, and I especially love to hear how others think and feel about topics. I am looking forward to this class!

Hello Clare, nice to meet you! It’s awesome that you are majoring in psychology and aspire to become a therapist. I think therapy is very necessary and your mental health it’s as important as your physical. When you are not in a good mindset it’s easy to stop taking care of yourself and the ones that you love. It is great that you’ll be providing therapy someday.
It is amazing that you are an interior designer. The way that your space it’s distributed and how it looks it’s also something that affects you so much. I’m glad that your career has given you many skills and you have learned your strengths and can use them in a positive way. Wish you the best of luck this semester!

    Hi Claire,

Thank you so much for sharing, I really enjoyed learning more about you. I’m also in my final credits at BMCC as I will be graduating in May; just want to say congratulations on that. It’s both a relief and such a rush of accomplishment when you know you’re almost at the finish line. Kudos to you for both having a career job while maintaining pursuing your dream job as a therapist. I think you should always push yourself to do any and everything you’ve wanted to do when it comes to a career, so the fact that you continued to go to college while working in a different field is truly something I admire. I also love to learn new things because I believe you can never really know enough there’s always more things to discover. Wishing you lots of luck with everything.

Hi Clare, I’m also majoring in psychology, just starting my second semester. It’s great that you’re able to recognize your strengths and how they’ll transfer to your future endeavors, that’s something I still struggle with as I’ve transitioned through several careers. I too have enjoyed returning to learning, more than I could have anticipated. Best of luck in the course, and in your ultimate pursuit.

Thanks, Clare! I love that you connected the dots to figure out what brought you to these different points in your life. I think that is so important, and you can only really do it retrospectively. It’s a nice way to make sense of your journey. And I wish you well on this next part of your journey, which sounds very exciting!

    Hi Clare,

Nice to meet you and thanks for sharing! Being an interior designer is one of the many “dream” careers I had when I was younger and I just want to ask, how is it really?! I feel like it’s fun but can be super overwhelming and challenging when it comes to making sure the client gets what they want and doing what you’re comfortable with.
