Welcome to Reimagining My Community!

Reimagining My Community is a community-focused paid summer leadership development opportunity that will be hosted by the Borough of Manhattan Community College in conjunction with Stephen Wilder of Think Wilder Architecture in Harlem, NY. Students will work collaboratively with one another, staff mentors, and professionals with backgrounds in fields including real estate development, architecture/design, government, community preservation, advocacy, and more. Through the lens of building design and environmentalism, students will gain practice in proactively addressing needs within their neighborhoods while preserving heritage, affordability, livability, and community.

Working in small groups, students will identify a neighborhood of interest, interview residents, and take note of community assets and deficits. With a dedicated mentor and student leader, these groups will create a proposal for a development project that will address a minimum of one community deficit while leveraging its’ assets and culture. The culmination of the program will be a group presentation detailing a site selection within the neighborhood, proposal for a service to be provided, and an overview of how the space will be used and who it is intended to serve.
