Melissa Valle Discussion 13

Frida Kahlo: a feminist figure, a brilliant artist, and the original icon for strong brows. Invented Traditions (Tradiciones Inventadas) examines Kahlo’s use of clothing and hairstyles to craft her own appearance, much the same way she used paint to create images on canvas. Featuring textiles and garments as pieces of art popular, the exhibit includes a local Tehuana dress that was a signature aspect of Kahlo’s personal style. Jackson Cole Phillips, an American industrialist, friend of Kahlo’s.

This piece of art caught my eye because of her  unmistakable bold brows her light
mustache, yet she still has a beautiful look to herself. Like no matter what I am beautiful and that everyone should embrace their looks no matter what. So beautiful.

I’ve seen this painting multiple times, especially on the internet and I couldn’t understand who she was or the meaning behind this painting! Once I saw the painting you upload it was so beautiful and the message behind it is powerful, are women should embrace their beauty no matter what. This is incredible.

    Hello Melissa,
Just like i chose Frida Kahlo, i absolutely love her art work and what they represent. Frida has a way with her activism she is very strong when it comes to feminism, she loved women as well as supported them while never becoming a stereotypical women. Frida uses a lot of symbolic elements in her paintings that include suffering that she had endured her whole life just like in this painting.

    Hi Melissa.
This artwork is really awesome! I appreciate the message as in a lot of places in the world, there is an incredibly clear-cut stereotypical beauty standard applied to women that really doesn’t make any sense when applied to any other people or places in the world. I love this piece.

Hey, Melissa. I like the painting’s message. It’s encouraging for young girls to know that it’s normal and that we don’t have to look a certain way to be considered beautiful. I’ve read a lot about her life and her work, and I think it was fantastic.

    Hi Melissa,

Thank you for sharing this beautiful artwork. Frida Kahlo is someone I am very familiar with so to see someone choose this and her in particular is so awesome. Frida is someone I definitely look up to. She was not only comfortable in her skin but embraced everything about herself and really demonstrated self-love and women empowerment. Once again, thank you for sharing.
