Melissa.Valle Discussion #8

The fight for labor rights and the fight for women’s suffrage are two of the most pivotal movements in American history. The right to vote and the right to bargain collectively have the power to directly impact the lives of millions of people. When women gained the right to vote, they leveraged that power to advocate for equal pay, workplace protections, and labor rights for women. Today, women’s labor rights are still synonymous with women’s rights.Women’s labor rights are fundamentally connected to women’s rights. Women’s rights are the rights of women to be free from discrimination, to be treated with dignity and respect, and to have equal rights and opportunities with men. Because women are primarily responsible for providing for the needs of the family, their rights are often intertwined with the rights of others to be free from oppression. Through their labor, women have traditionally contributed to the American economy, which has allowed them to make decisions concerning the allocation of their time and resources.

    Hello Melissa,

I don’t know if I am tired or what, while I agree with your points in your discussion, but you repeated the same points a few times in your discussion.

I agree with Nisha – you said the same thing a few times and didn’t support the points you were making very strongly. One thing I will note is that labor rights and women’s rights were not a moment. They are movements that are still going on today.

Hi Melissa, I agree with what you wrote about equal rights for women. That women have done so much to push forth their rights. There is still a lot of work to be done, but I’m sure we will get there even though it takes a long time.

I completely agree with you that these movements have marked and have been the most important in history. The rights of women is just that, being able to be treated equally as any man. I feel that this, that women have to take care of the family and stay at home, are previous stereotypes, right? In other words, these stereotypes are still used, but many women who fight for their liberation and rights have also shown that they are capable of being the ones who bring money to the home. They have shown that not only women should take care of the family but that men can too, right? Or are women still being criticized for this fact today? I ask, since many times I have seen how today there is more liberation regarding women, and that they now show what they want and can be.
