Something a lot of these topics have brought up for me is where did all of this start? How did the patriarchal system develop and how did we become so entrenched in it. In my mind I have always linked it to religion and property, though religion most likely served to reinforce a system that was already in place. But surely the development of property and our need to provide a clear chain of inheritance set in motion many of the problems we see today. Is there any point in analyzing its origins, or are we so far beyond them that they are irrelevant.

I would like to know where it all started too. Maybe it began with religion and that built the structure for what we know as patriarchy. I’m not sure what began what set in motion the oppression and notion of woman as possessions. I would like to know that answer too.
Colonialism is often cited as part of the problem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqEgsHGiK-s
And, of course, colonialism has a lot to do with religion and property.
So would you say the pervasiveness of the patriarchy is the issue? Western colonization allowed these ideas to permeate the world creating the dominant societal structure we see today. Had we never colonized these cultures we might still have had these systems in place (though within smaller confines), and still have had alternative systems to measure against or challenge what we today deem to be the patriarchy. So would we sight colonization as the main cause because it snuffed out any alternative system?
I would say, yes, that is one theory. Though it’s always more complicated than that.
I think this is a very good question, as History always helps us understand the root of something, which is important for knowing how to not repeat things.
I think people often want to blame things on religion, but the thing is, we created religion. So it still comes back to human beings and somewhere in there is survival I’m sure, because that’s what drives us.
It seems that in the millions of years we have been around, the answers to these question are spread along timelines of evolution that we can’t even fathom.
There might have even been a time where women went along with the systems, because they weren’t seen as oppressive, then suddenly they were deep enough in that when the script was flipped, so to speak, they found themselves in such a disadvantage.
One book I read a while ago, called Sapiens, gave a really informative and concise anthropological history.
Anyway, I think History is very import, but so is the current behavior and it makes sense to try to tackle both at once.
I feel like this is a point to analyzing its origins in order to better navigate the future always . However when exactly do we start accepting accountability for what is happening . We are the cogs in the system , everything we do enables “The System” to continue in my opinion. I agree with what you stated regarding religion and property tying into colonization but also the continual white washing of history native or indigenous cultures that effect us today . Ripple effects of colonialism.
Antione – I would say that whitewashing you mention is a product of colonialism. In terms of accepting accountability, I think unlearning is a great way to be accountable. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/the-gen-y-psy/202004/the-power-unlearning
