My name is Giselle but i preferred to be called Gee i am currently a Case Manager at a homeless shelter for LGBT youth, prior to that i worked 8 years in youth development at a DYCD cornerstone. Now that I’m an older adult i prefer to experience different places and i like nature. This summer i discovered camping (I grew up in an urban setting) My pronouns are she /her. I have always been interested in women through out history and otherwise. Women liberators and revolutionaries. I am interested to learn their crucial roles in history. I feel my most prominent experience has been that of a woman and that affects me in society before anything else. Broadening my experience is that i present as masculine as a queer woman. I am taking this class to gain knowledge and understand women with different experiences. Some things that I dislike are people who are indifferent or participate in other people’s suffering, math and heights. I am interested in getting a degree in psychology or social work so i can better service the population i work with. I was born and raised in Bushwick Brooklyn and my father migrated here from Puerto Rico while my mother came here from Colombia. I am proud of my background and the rich culture that i am a part of I value community and living by my own set of morals I also value my support circle and human rights. As well as peoples freedom and individuality. MY dreams and hopes are to one day own my own non-profit that services undocumented children and children of color that caters to their culture and meets their needs. I realized after a few years that also i had lived experience and can identify with the people in my community i needed credentials to get certain positions that granted decision making in community resources and needs. I like eating different foods, reading all types of music. I love sports and playing games and am very much into Zodiacs and horoscopes. I like observing and trying to understand people I believe in standing up for what you believe in no matter the difficulty. I am curious about what this class will be about and how it will benefit my lived experience and to support other women in the future. I have a few difficult classes this semester so i am a bit nervous and hope to keep up with all my classes.

hi, my name is Sheena Sanchez, some close family and friends call me cheina. I was born and raised in the Dominican republic but I came to the united states at the age of 14 years old along with y mother and sister.1 consider myself a very empathetic person who likes to take care of others. I am currently a mother to a 2 years old boy. right now I am studying psychology , and I’m not sure what I want to do for sure I have a few ideas in mind but as for right now I’m just trying to finish off school. I might go to law school or get a doctorate in child psychology. my hope in dreams is to be able to provide my son a good life , better than I had. I hope to learn from this class how to get to know myself more as a women and also the women in my life who surround me. in regards to topics being covered I hope to learn more about important women figures who changed our world and how they did it , I believe that would be good enough inspiration
I have learned about women in history due to social media but never in class, and my curiosity inspired me to take this class, because one of my goals is to learn more about human behaviors, specifically in babies and women. I am currently trying to obtain my psych major as a mentioned before, I hope to work with kids , teenagers and women maybe as a advocate or as a counselor to help them emotionally. what also inspired me to want to work with kids is my son as well as my experienced that I went to as teenager , I remember wanting someone to listen and to understand me when I was in HS but I could not find someone I could trust. I want to be an example and provide that comfort and trust in others to help as much as a I can. I come from a third world country where women don’t have as many rights or options as they do in the united states. I hope to one day bring help into my community and assist women and let them know that they know alone. also right now I’m reading a book that am liking so far and would like to share with the class and its called ” WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES”.
PS: I ACCIDENTLY POSTED THE FIRST COMMENT AND I CONTINUED IT AS A REPLY.
I am so glad that more people want to help inspire the youth i think we all at a certain point in our life wanted someone to hear what we were experiencing at the time it was happening . Just curious How did you come across this book?

I don’t know if your like me but when i see certain people making art on tv or IG i tend to critique them a bit is that something you find yourself doing since you have been studying psychology, For example watching a psychologist tv show and saying yourself “that’s not how they do that” . Also what made you want to study psychology
Hello, my name is Alexandra Diodonet I am a United States citizen and the first generation in my family to go to college. This is my last semester at BMCC and I am graduating in May of 2022 and heading to Lehman College in the fall of this year. My major is psychology, and hopefully, I’ll get my master’s or Ph.D. in either child or forensic psychology. My pronouns are she/her/hers and the reason why I decided to take gender women studies courses is to learn more about gender since we live in a generation where gender means more than the characteristics of males and women I want to learn more about gender and women studies. I am curious about what we’ll learn in this class and how being a woman will benefit me in life and in the future.

My name is Antione i am studying art history and this is my final semester for someone who always hated school this is a huge accomplishment for me . I was born in East Flatbush Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx and long island . Art is my passion , i am painter that draws inspiration from movies, music, my chaotic childhood, dreams , cathedrals , and of course anime. With my artistic passion i plan on inspiring people to use more of there imagination and creativity throughout there life. Also i will have my paintings seen throughout time square. I feel the lively art, music that once thrived heavily in the Bronx is no more, so i feel it is my duty to fix that by opening an art music program for the youths . When i was younger the graffiti in and around the trains fascinated me. It almost was like the graffiti was alive . I hope to become more enlightened with this class in regards to the woman’s academia . I am open to hearing and learning anything . I really dislike irony , fake social justice warriors and idea theft. The stealing of ideas is more severe in my opinion as it happens in it is a constant within the world of art. I would suggest a film called you’re next its a thriller pretty gory and sprinkled with dark humor but the thing that really made this film unique was that main protagonist is a woman trained by her survivalist father. The roles in this film seemed to be reversed where the main characters boyfriend seemed to be the damsel in distress clumsy and nervous . After watching the film i wondered why that role reversal was such a shock . Maybe the portrayal of woman in movies as helpless fumbling objects has finally become obsolete. I value the fact that art is apart of everything from cooking, fashion, music there is art within everything.

Bidushi Pyakurel, Discussion #1
Hi! My name is Bidushi Pyakurel. This is my last semester as a criminal justice student in BMCC. I hope to transfer to John Jay next semester. I am originally from Kathmandu, Nepal and have been living in the United States (and New York) for the past 4 years. I use she/her/hers pronoun. Growing up in a third world country with predominantly patriarchal societies, I believed the US and other western countries were the epitome of gender equality and expression. However, with age and experience, I have realized that may not be the case. I guess taking this class is my attempt at understanding the nuances and intricacies of such a complex subject, especially in terms of intersectionality.
On a lighter note, I love learning new skills until I’m fairly decent at them. After that, I stop doing them altogether. I have taken up sewing, making nail art, playing a guitalele (in my defense, I thought I ordered a guitar), painting, drawing anime characters, cooking, among other things. My favorite thing to do, however, has to be overanalyzing media I consume, especially TV series. One thing I’ve noticed in recent years is that the female characters I sympathize with (or at least understand their motives and reasonings) are usually disliked by male audience. Two of the examples I can think of are Diane Ngyugen from Bojack Horseman and Siobhan Roy from Succession. It is especially interesting to me since most women I talk to seem to agree that these are well-rounded, relatable characters. I would really love to get into this in class if it feels appropriate. I’m looking forward to this class and I hope I leave with a better understanding of other people’s perspective.
