Art is like the emblem of soul speech. It always exudes contents which is always hard to express through words. This image was made by a street artist so the isn’t known, however I have attached the link which will assist in giving answers to what you may want. I really like this art; it displays delicately a moment during which Americans had it tough. It depicts a time when Americans were battling for rights and the end of police Brutality. Of course, not all police officers react or settle issues as badly as in the case of George Floyd, however that is the stigma that has been branded to the cops. The people really are not to blame, the number of cases with such similarities is overwhelming. The image, this art has a deep meaning and a revolutionary story behind it. A very impactful message that draws attention wherever.

Daniela Munoz Discussion Board #13

This piece is powerful and was created by Norman Rockwell, a highly influential American Press illustrator, from New York. When I first came upon this painting I was enraged, hurt, and confused but ultimately once those emotions passed I noticed that I was extremely inspired as well. I immediately thought about the Civil Rights movement, which is the reason behind this piece. Aside from capturing my attention, this image was powerful because of the plethora of messages I was given. This piece speaks of injustice, segregation, pain, courage and overall activism. This piece speaks of activism to me because when the world is against you, which it was for African Americans during the time that this piece was created, to go about one’s life as an African American with one’s head held high, is defiance in the most courageous way.

This piece shows me that no one can stop us, for where there is a will there most certainly is a way.

Jessica Watts Mixed Media Paintings Wallpaper Pattern Feminist Art

Tittle: “Wallflower” Pretty Can Be Powerful

Artist: Jessica Watts

When I first discovered this artwork, I believe I was in my freshman year of high school, I was so taken with it that I made it my lock screen for a while. It always stuck out to me not only because of the eye-catching colors, but also because of its healthy message. Watts uses fun patterns and vividly colored blossoms to highlight the self-possessed woman’s strength and beauty.
This series of emotional paintings portrays an unnamed female figure standing in front of a backdrop inspired by a real-life wallpaper design. Most portrayals disguise the subject’s nakedness with bouquets bursting with textured blossoms. Thick brushstrokes mold the petals of the flowers, emphasizing their form and making them stand out against the flatness of the patterned surfaces. These details are what create great meaning when it comes the importance of woman power and the things that will be needed to accomplish woman power.

Olivia Vanora Discussion 13

The piece I’ve chosen for this week’s discussion is called Love Is In The Air by Banksy. When I was younger my mom let me watch the film Exit Through The Gift Shop (I highly recommend you all watch), about his work and the meanings behind them. I was fascinated that someone could remain unknown yet his work speak so loudly. Banksy is pseudonymous, and was born in the United Kingdom. The majority of his work showcases activism without using text. In the piece I’ve chosen, we see a masked man throwing flowers, when really one would assume it was meant to depict a bomb. It can be taken as “spread love not war”. This reminds me of riots in the 60s, but instead of causing pain he is throwing a symbol of peace.

This was the main image I used from the link. I am not sure who made the art but I assume it was by Olivia Burton – the one who the link is from.

I chose this image because it shows a good example of global warming. Increasing water levels. Obviously this was written before the water line increased, and by the time the picture was taken the water had increased. Eventually if we keep up with how we’re going, the entire phrase will be completely submerged. That is the result of the greenhouse gasses being trapped in the atmosphere, heating up the planet, and causing major icebergs to melt, and therefore increasing the sea levels. It is activism to me because it is fighting for environmental activism. Many people don’t believe in global warming and go on with their day not realizing that it really is real and affecting us all daily. That image is an example that slowly but surely, that quote on the wall would be completely submerged underwater and who knows what else.

I’ve linked a article about a feminist protests against rape I came across in social media. There is video of the protest in the link showing large groups of women, blindfolded, and reciting a chant and choreography titled “A Rapist in Your Path”/”The Rapist is You.” This is a protest chant that originated in Chile to highlight the struggle of women in the Latin American country. The chant became a feminist anthem and spread world wide.

When I first watched it I was in shock and took a moment after to take in what I had watched. It was amazing to see women all around the world taking part in the protest. I think artistic activism like this is so impactful because of the shock factor. The words of the chant alone are extremely moving and provoking but combining with the performance aspect takes the protest wo a new level. Rather than the average protest like a march, seeing these large groups of women chanting and moving in unison, calling out and pointing toward specific people (especially while blindfolded), sends a powerful and unforgettable message.
