Moving Beyond the Gender Binary by Alok means to live in the world as a person who does not belong on a side of the traditional gender binary – meaning strictly a woman or a man. Gender identification may play an important role in the defense of the gender/sex binary in two main ways. First, it may average reactions to different types of policies and practices that challenge the gender/sex binary, and second, it may be involved with gender/sex binary maintaining testament more generally. One way that my gender identity goes against the binary norm is that I believe God made women for men and men for women. That is why adam and eve once existed. Ways it fits the binary norm is that I would never judge someone’s beliefs. I have families who are binary and I treat them with the same respect I treat any other person. They are still human just with a different view and belief.

Reflection 2

After reading the chapter of Alox Vaid Menon’s book “Beyond the Gender Binary”, and watching the short video on youtube. I have better clarification on Gender Binary. There are certain statements that the author speaks about that I agree with and did not agree with. When Alox stated what moving on beyond the Gender Binary is he states that “Manhood and Womanhood should not be defined in opposites and he says he views it “as 2 stars and a galaxy” I didn’t really understand that phrase. I was raised to believe that in this world there are only two genders males and females. Growing up in church the chapter of the bible there is only one woman and one man. In this world we live in people make the decision to be the gender they’d like to be but not who in reality they really are. We all have different opinions and beliefs with it comes to gender and sexuality but to me, my belief is the reality.  In aloxs belief, he will make what he believes known and wants us to also believe his truth and opinions. I also believe that if you personally aren’t in that galaxy alox claims there is you wouldn’t really see what he sees. Some people might agree with me and some people might disagree with me. The truth is nobody is right. people have the right to believe and think what they want. That’s why he made this book and video, for people to be more open-minded about the binary world. Everyone deserves to see the bigger picture of every situation.

The quote ” “a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression.” Meant that he defined feminism as a movement that aims to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression. Feminism is a collaborate approach to issues of equality and equity based on gender and gender expression through social hypothsis and political activism. Before reading the 2 articles I belived sex and gender were in the same definition. Sex and gender can be two complicated topics. Now I understand that Sex is a biological sterotype, while gender is a social sterotype and refers to the social and cultural differences a society defiene people based on their sex. Many biological explanations for gender roles do exist, but sociologists believe that culture and socialization are more important sources of gender roles rather than biology.

  1. My reflection based the article “Sex & Gender 101”  is a gender-inclusive article made to show us how to take proper actions to providing care that addresses the specific needs of LGBTQI+ indivisuals. The article has a dictionary of terms and resources for who communicate with indivisuals across the gender spectrum. People’s gender identity can match their biological sex or it can not. When someone uses the words “girl” or “women” to identify herself, she is stating that her gender is female.
  2. My recflection on “FEMINISM IS FOR EVERYBODY” is a book by bell hooks. A woman rights always brings us from slavery to being free, to feeling hopeless to having hope. Hooks explains her labor of love in writing this guide to us woman.
