Discussion 1

Hello, everyone. My name is Jessica but you can call me Jess. I go by she/her. I am currently trying to finish all my prerequisites to apply to the nursing program in Hunter College. My dream is to be an intensive care unit nurse. I was born and raised in New York City but I lived in Chicago for four years. Unfortunately I had to move back to New York because my parents couldn’t stand the fact I was far away. I still plan to move back to Chicago when I finish my studies here. Chicago is full of great people, delicious food, and an alley to leave your trash for pick up. My pet peeves are disorganization and laziness. I can’t stand it but I try to work with people and help them understand when you have things in order everything else seems to come into place. Being proactive helps the mind, body, and soul. I love to travel and get to know new people. There is something about being in another place that allows me to really engage in what life is about. I also love sports. I can sit and watch it on tv or go out to games. One more thing that I truly enjoy is fantasy novels. It allows me to remove myself from this world and create an imaginary one where you just didn’t own a dog but a dragon and I love the thought of dragons flying around. I hope to learn more about theory, literature, history, sociology, all with a feminist perspective.

    Hi Jessica!
I agree with what you added at the end of your discussion. Diving into fantasies and removing myself from the real world is something I do a lot too! I personally love the idea of me being able to fly since I do that a lot in my actual dreams. Good luck with the rest of the semester and your goal of becoming an ICU Nurse!!

    Hello Jessica!

Just as you are, I am finishing up my prerequisites to apply to the nursing program. I plan on pursuing a degree as a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I wish you the best of luck on your path!
    How are your classes going?
I have never been to Chicago but you have definitely sold me on it! I enjoy food and being in good company so I hope to visit there someday.
You mentioned how reading allows you to tap into your creative side by imagining dragons flying around and I feel that is what I love most about reading. It is almost magical when you’re enthralled in a good story.
Thank you for your share by the way!

Hi Jessica. Oh, your post made me homesick for Chicago. I really miss it and love it there. I love New York, too, but my family is in the Chicagoland area and because of COVID it’s been much too long since I visited. I hope you have a good time in this class. Also, dragons are endlessly fascinating.
