Merichel Almonte. Discussion 14

In the article “Roe v. Wade” it is mentioned that the issue of abortion will be an issue that will not finish being debated because it has a lot of pros and cons. Telemedicine abortion is protected by the Dutch doctor Rebecca Gomperts. Which is used to provide help to girls and women who in other hospitals are denied an abortion to unwanted babies. This has created so many opinions because some are against the fact that it is killing an innocent baby, others that it can affect the mother regarding her health and others that yes because if they are products, for example, of a rape, the girl or the woman yes. You don’t want to, you shouldn’t have it because it will remind you of that painful moment in your life. A viable fetus is said to start from 24 weeks, which is equivalent to 6 months. Some even claim that a fetus can survive to 22 or 23 weeks.

The documents show that the Supreme Court could overturn Roe vs. Wade. They have an article that protects a pregnant woman’s freedom to choose an abortion without excessive government restrictions. I think this is good in a certain way because that way many raped girls will not bring unwanted children into the world and moreover both being children, the mother inexperienced. However, with legal abortion, many women who did have sex with its consent abort simply because they do not want responsibility, to continue with an active sexual life without the commitment of being mothers.
In the documentary, “Vessel”, it is observed how they are in favor of it being legal because each woman does what she wants with her body.

    Hi Merichel,
I agree with your point you made about victims of rape not having to bring children into this world inexperienced. That’s also a great point a lot of the patients make in the documentary, that they want to have an abortion because they know they wouldn’t be able to provide for, properly parent or raise the child that could be brought into the world if they didn’t have the procedure. In my opinion it feels more mature and responsible to be aware of and able to admit that versus just wanting to bring a baby into the world that you can’t take care of.

    Hi Merichel!
It is such a slap in the face that these politicians, especially the male ones, think they should have an opinion in what a woman should do with their body. Rape victims being forced to go through a pregnancy regardless of what their decision will be is so harmful. This can lead to an increase of unsafe abortions, suicide rates, and more.
