Based on all the topics we have discussed I liked learning more about privilege. This topic was a huge eye-opener for me and I now understand what it means to be privileged. Most of us have a helping hand in certain areas but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should be ashamed. At least acknowledge it and help others who don’t have a helping hand.
I also liked last week’s topic about activism. There are so many forms of activism. For instance, I’ve been hearing a lot about a petition to make CUNY schools tuition-free. I’ve heard about this through various professors and other students. I even had a professor have an activist in our classroom and speak to us about the cause.
Hi Nicolas,
I’d definitely agree, Before this class Ive never truly looked into privilege as much as I have over the course of these few weeks. There are usually misunderstandings about what exactly can be considered as privilege along side traits that have already been embellished over time.
Nicolas,
I like how you express that acknowledgment of privilege. How we can focus on all the things we don’t have yet just doing a simple check in can remind us that actually we have many privileges that others in our same country don’t. With this knowledge we can be of help to those that don’t have accessibility to the privileges we do have. It can also help us individually think of more realistic ways we can engage in activism instead of thinking it is something completely beyond us and choosing to ignore these issues out of convenience.
Hi Nicholas, I like the way you responded to the discussion bored, you kept it very clear and simple.
