Reflection 8

In “The Politics of Housework,” we can see how Pat Mainardi distinguishes between the Liberated Woman and Women’s Liberation. She believes that the Liberated Woman is sexually active and has a job, whereas Women’s Liberation is concerned with domestic sharing. this piece has some much relative information which I loved and agree. Many mans feel less or embarrassed to do house chore as it is a women thing or when they do it they get tired leave it for another day or simply stop doing it as they do not live in the house and has the same responsibilities the women does. I feel like this happen often and more in this era. In this article the author compared the house work women do to how mans react to it or do the house work. When mans have to face the reality that the house chores is a responsibility of two many things change.

After reading the text “The Myth of the Vaginal Orgasm” it became interesting to me. Author Koedt goes to mention women’s vagina’s aren’t sensitive and can’t orgasm by the vagina and the assumption of men believing they have the power to give us the satisfaction which in case is true but women can also. Pleasure is pleasure according to Anne. Even though the clitoris is a women’s pleasure, sometimes we can be left unsatisfied just for a man in which the make as if they came. Man sometimes doesn’t realize that pleasure goes beyond touching they think more on themselves.

Where as Mainardi argues the same within her own article and personally I feel that today’s society is really all about men satisfying themselves through sex and as women we are the ones to go through the consequences and still do to this day.

Ayleen Zapata- Reflection #6

Those who do not study history will be destined to repeat it. To achieve equality today, we must first comprehend the past. Rewriting and recalling history has always been fundamental to the aim of equality, according to feminist analysis. We’ve learned so much over the last few weeks that I believed I understood what it meant to be a feminist or, at the very least, the struggles people endure simply for being themselves. I was proven incorrect; there is so much more for me to learn. This week I had the privilege to read  ‘What’s in a Name?’ On Writing the History of Feminism” by  Claire Goldberg Moses. Moses examines the origins, extent, advantages, and limitations of the umbrella word feminist. Moses argues that the term feminist is neither a fixed or unchanging concept. Feminism does not have a single definition. Moses presents a brief history of women who used the term feminist to denote collective activity. She brings the subject of women claiming the title of feminist up to date by writing on the limiting of the term feminist since the 1990s. It is critical to understand the history of women’s inequality. How can we improve if we don’t know what has to be changed? We should not be scared of change. People are constantly improving, so why shouldn’t society?

Jazmine Hernandez- Discussion 2

What I understood from the quote “a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression” is to fight for equality. hat I didn’t know was that there was more to that such as establishing a political, economic, personal, and social equality. between both sexes. Although it’s about having equal rights and opportunities, it’s about having a level of respect for our experiences, identities, and empower women of all rights. Personally, I feel no one is better than the other. Therefore, men and women are capable of doing anything. We all deserve to be equal no matter who we are. After reading Sex and Gender 101, I had a better understanding between them, such as ” there are several different sex chromosome variations that intersex persons can have.” I believed choosing a gender was just based on personality and how you portrait yourself. I also think society pressures us at a young age to act the gender we are assigned with at birth and in many cases can be uncomfortable for many who don’t accept how they are born. Many of these problems wouldn’t be an issue if things like femininity wasn’t assigned sex of masculinity as well.

Discussion Post 1: Shanice Peters

My name is Shanice Peters. I am 19 years old and this is my second year at BMCC. My pronouns are she/her. To be honest, I don’t like Bmcc, so far my experience has been a never-ending list of horrible professors. I received my first F in college last semester and I was feeling down about it. Especially since it was out of my control. Nevertheless, I was not going to let one F keep me down any longer. I cried about it but now I am ready to kill education with my brilliance. I believe one of my best qualities is that I am known as a social butterfly, who comes home to be alone just to listen to music in my thoughts. I love to engage in interesting conversations and make others laugh. Someone once told me “ Shanice if you don’t become a comedian then I don’t know” Music is probably the best thing humans ever created. It tells stories of people who go through hard times or good times. It is like therapy for not only the mind but the soul. My life long dream has always been to become a Nurse Practitioner. Especially for children and mothers. Which brings me to Bmcc and to this class here today. GWS 100 is one of the courses I need to be one step closer to becoming a nurse practitioner. I am not familiar with gender women studies, however I hope to learn more about the study of women. How we think, why we think the way we do, the importance of what makes a woman, etc. I’m more of a visual learner, very hands-on down and dirty type of gyal. I don’t believe I am the smartest person but if I keep a positive attitude and work hard, I can be on the level of whoever the smartest person is. I also want to major in psychology and English. Growing up I’ve had a passion for creative writing and writing poetry. I am currently in the process of writing my first ever poetry book. Becoming a therapist is kind of new to me. I enjoy listening to others speak when they feel like no one else hears them. I want others to have me as a listening ear. I hope we all pass with flying colors, Good luck to everyone!
