As i said in my reflection i believe overturning abortion is wrong and will bring many issues not only to women. It breaks my heart to know that a country as “free” as ours believes women shouldnt have the option to choose what they want with their body. I understand why some see it as controversial but at the end of the day we all should have the right to decide what happens to our bodies, the right to make the best decision for ourselves. Politics shouldnt be involved or play factor in private matters like this .Before watching i didn’t know there was a hotline for women to call if they cant afford an abortion. It really does pain me to know these services can be taken away and other measures will have to be taken.

It was interesting to see the short film “This is Lisa.” I wasn’t aware that there is even a hotline to help women pay for abortions because they can’t afford it. Especially so close to home. There are many reasons why a women would want to end a pregnancy. Having baby is not easy. I’m happy this hotline exist. It’s based on donations but they’re helping these women pay something towards the cost. There are many types of abortion methods but the less weeks you are the easier the procedure is. The leaked documents about making abortion illegal again is just heartbreaking. I dont watch the news at all because it makes me sad so I literally rather not know what’s going on in the world. But also you see the news in other platforms like social media which is where i found out about it. Its so sad that they’re making this illegal again. Why is my question. Why is it that they feel they can tell us what and what not to do with our bodies. Its disgusting. There are women in this world getting raped, not financially stable, not ready to bring a life into this world, not in a great place in life, how are they going to make that decision for women not caring under what circumstances they are in. Its sad and disturbing. I really wish I weren’t living in this time.

“ The this is Lisa” tries to help a woman pay for their abortion. But it’s base of donations. The government, Medicaid isn’t covering for abortions because of the HYE Amendment. The film the abortion divide mainly focuses on, how abortion clinic started. Many women get abortions two to rape, lack of money to be able to maintain a child (not being financially stable). some woman feel embarrassed when getting an abortion because they are afraid of being judged by others. This film shows how woman feel well getting checked out before getting the procedure done, it’s difficult with the different cases. There are protesters outside of the abortion clinics trying to convince women and I got abortions. Most women usually get the RU468 pill because it’s less painful. For surgical abortion patients are sedated while the procedure is done.Medical abortions are carried out when a pregnant woman is given prescription drugs at a clinic and then sent home with the remaining tablets to finish the abortion at home. They will return for a second visit to ensure that the process was completed successfully. These allow the woman to be in a comfortable environment of her choice. They usually feel like a heavy cramping like when your’e on your menstrual cycle that lasts about couple of hours. Most protesters are older white men, who think they can have an opinion about a woman’s body. According to the mothers home they are pro life, they don’t just hope the woman while she’s pregnant, they hope the woman when the baby is also born and make sure they have a place to live and food.

I’m furious. First off, I’d like to point out how ridiculous it is to let such an important draft be leaked. It’s irresponsible. Government officials have no right to be upset about the backlash from the public.
Preventing abortion is a pipeline to more poverty. With the baby formula shortage, prices will most likely go up. I believe the government wants to make things harder for women, but won’t dare to do the same for men. I haven’t heard any conversation about vasectomies. Im nervous for my future and for others. There are so many women who were raped or don’t have the health conditions to carry a baby. What will they do? A women Ohio lawmaker recently said it’s unfortunate for women who have to suffer the scars of being raped, but the scars wont go away regardless. When I heard that, I realized some women in politics aren’t on our side either. Yes, the scars wont go away, they will only get worse. That baby can be a constant reminder, not to mention she has to deal will the mental trauma of the assault and the mental stress of pregnancy all at once.
I believe government officials avoid the conversation of how the women is impacted because they don’t care and they know there is a lot of trauma when women have babies against there will. Whenever I see people being rude or protesting in front of abortion clinics, it screams hypocrisy and irony. You call us inhumane and bad people but cant even treat humans with decency yourself. Since there’s so much conversation about banning abortion, I want to see solutions on what will happen when these children end up in poor households, shelters, or foster care. What will this country do with them now that they’re here?

When I listen around, or learn around, political contentions that take absent our human rights, comparable to Roe vs. Swim, I tend to rapidly put myself within the shoes of those who would be significantly influenced by the results of a choice like this. The recordings that were given to us this week were amazingly difficult for me to observe as they made me exceptionally passionate. Comparative to what I expressed in my talk post, I think that numerous disregard the enthusiastic turmoil a lady encounters when making such a intense choice. It’s one thing to perused around it, but a totally diverse thing to see it. I praise the bravery that was appeared by the women who chose to require portion in these documentaries and share their stories with us. It appears as in spite of the fact that numerous of the things that have happened numerous numerous a long time back, are shockingly proceeding to hold on nowadays. When perusing the brief history on premature birth, it was specified that those who were turned absent from getting an premature birth were slaves.

I feel like overturning abortion rights speaks about women oppression. The founding fathers did not include it in the Amendments because at the time, women were not viewed equally, so their plights were overlooked. The same applies to women’s suffrage. Although the founding fathers claimed that all men were created equal, some were enslaved, and others were overlooked. Thus, stating that abortion rights were not protected by the founding fathers is a flawed logic. Furthermore, I realized that the bill will disproportionately impact the low-income households and minority communities. Individuals who are financially capable will not feel the impact of the bill. However, the less fortunate, who are predominantly minority communities, will feel the impact. Many will be forced to have babies they are incapable of taking care of. Furthermore, I think it is irresponsible to punish and criminalize abortions. After watching the “Abortion Helpline, This is Lisa” video, I realized that abortion is not just terminating an unwanted pregnancy as many people think. It is far more intricate than that. For instance, it involves women seeking medical treatment for pregnancies that drastically and imminently threaten their lives. Other situations involved raped individuals not wanting to keep the child because of their personal reasons. Thus, all these reasons must be considered. No better person to do it than women; women from marginalized communities, whose voices have been drowned and neglected.

the news about abortion being banned like I said in my previous post made me heartbroken. I know how little support us woman get with everything going on this is as bad as it can get. I hope this doesnt become effective considering many lives will be at risk if it do. I wish other people would put themselves in these woman shoes and try to feel their pain. no woman wishes to abort a child and I speak on personal experience as well, it is a sad situation to be in but it sometimes needs to be done. other times woman may have stillborn wich is still considered an abortion althought women can not control the outcome. many women get abortion from different reason but one of the mains one would be religion among other reasons as well. many young woman also go through horrible life experiences like S/A that makes them seeks this kind of procedures. reading about rebecca gomperts made me so happy I was happy for her and I felt happiness for the woman she was helping this cause is a very thoughtful one because she donates a lot of these medication to woman who cannot pay. shipping and making its way to the womans house is a beautiful way to help our sisters who are going through difficult times to try and get these procedures done in a safe enviroment. as well as the abortion line who tries to help woman come up with some of the money to get it done and its usually women of lower income.
Bidushi Pyakurel Reflection 13
If I’m being completely honest, the news about the leaked document took a little bit of a toll on me. I went to the protest on Foley Square right after finishing my class and only got to spend about 45 mins. I felt so guilty not being able to properly commit and angry because I honestly thought we were done with this issue at least. It’s infuriating how instead of progressing and moving towards how to make abortion accessible, birth control safer, we’re instead moving backwards having to fight about the same issue again.
It was also interesting to see how many people in Twitter were talking about how this is just like The Handmaid’s Tale. I don’t mean to dismiss their rightful outrage, but the truth is it has more or less always been this way. Women from marginalized communities have had their reproductive rights violated, even in recent times. Dawn Wooten, a nurse who worked at the privately-operated Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia had come forward how there hysterectomies without informed consent were performed on undocumented immigration in ICE detention facilities. While these were unverified allegations, it’s not hard to believe since US has had a history of forcefully sterilizing or performing experiments on BIPOC women, poor people and people with physical and mental disabilities. So, while we protest against the overturning of Roe v. Wade, we must also make sure we acknowledge and fight against the injustice minorities continuously face and fight for them as well.
This shit is so frustrating and overwhelming. There’s a shortage of baby formulas, the foster care system is messed up, our planet’s essentially dying and there’s so much wealth inequality. Forcing someone to give birth in this environment is all kinds of evil. The more I think about it the more hopeless I feel and seeing people make insensitive comments about such an issue, or downright trivialize it, is depressing.

The video of this week ¨the abortion divide¨ have been heartbreaking for me, it is a very tough decision for women to make and as in the video said ¨ only they (mothers) know what they should do¨. Honestly, this is a decision that is a life changing thing, and you really need to think it well. I really like that in the documentary women were involved telling their stories, their experiences and their process. Showing both sides and the different ideas that are going through their mind while they were choosing to abort, was a better way to understand their position. Its a big responsibility and most of them were struggling financially, they felt that they were not ready. This is our right, and women must take control over their lives and bodies.
Samantha Rojas- Reflection 13
When I hear about, or learn about, political controversies that take away our human rights, similar to Roe vs. Wade, I tend to quickly put myself in the shoes of those who would be greatly affected by the consequences of a decision like this. The videos that were given to us this week were extremely hard for me to watch as they made me very emotional. Similar to what I stated in my discussion post, I think that many forget the emotional turmoil a woman experiences when making such a tough decision. It’s one thing to read about it, but a completely different thing to see it. I commend the bravery that was shown by the women who chose to take part in these documentaries and share their stories with us. It seems as though many of the things that have happened many many years ago, are unfortunately continuing to persist today. When reading the brief history on abortion, it was mentioned that those who were turned away from getting an abortion were slaves. Since plantation owners wanted to increase their wealth, slave women having children was incredibly convenient for them and were able to gain more control of what could be done for their enterprises. As Rebecca Gomperts also stated, the reason why abortion is so controversial in this country is because those in power would be more in favor of keeping people poor in order to control them. We can only hope that those in power can hear the outcries and change their minds about our rights in regards to our bodies.
