For this week, I would like to talk about my painting. I would like to talk about my painting because its been a huge impact in the U.S. about the new abortion laws and our rights. I feel like in todays day and age, why are they trying to take away our rights? Its not fair that we don’t have a say to OUR bodies. We are the ones who should decide if we want to carry a baby not the government. Us women, feel trapped in OUR bodies again. The same way we felt many years ago. How is it that we won a fight and lost it again? It’s something so mind blowing, how men get to decide women’s rights. Also not sure how true this is because I saw it in social media and never followed up with it was that they’re also trying to ban condoms! Which if this is true, it’s just ridiculous at this point. This feels like a remix of Handmaid’s Tale. At this point is the government raping women and forcing us to have their babies. The more and more I read and hear about all that’s going on, the more I want to leave the U.S. I know I am not the only one that thinks it. We don’t have rights to anything anymore, not even our own vaginas.

In this week’s perusing I learned approximately the genuine meaning behind aesthetic activism. I had listened this wording some time recently but I didnt know what it really implied considering I learned approximately it when I was In tall school. craftsmanship could be a way for craftsmen of all kind to precise themselves and like it was clarified within the perusing some of the time its difficult to get it them or see their point of see but depending on the arm with now and then feel how they feel wether is bliss or torment, anything the case may be. reflectin on this readings I get it way better that a basic thing can be considered imaginative activism. I see a part of them on my instagram in some cases when craftsman conversation approximately an dynamic issue through their drawing and I would understand it without indeed having any words. presently days is straightforward to come up with something and share it on social media and it might be a drawing or video or a blurb fair talking around a issue you want more individuals would know almost. Back then about 70 or 80 years ago when our ancestors were alive the only way they would see this kind of art would be through newspaper or in a march where people held posters expressing their feelings and how it can be changed. now days with all this technology is so much easier to share with all these social media apps. whenever something is happen I quickly get updated on it because of social media because tons of my friends share it, its amazing how technology can be so helpful when it comes to fighting for a cause. I always loved art but unfortunately I am not gifted enough to come up with something on my own to express my feelings about the situation us women are going through

Why Artistic Activism? from the Center for Artistic Activism is very interesting. It notes that it has been used throughout history, and it immediately reminded me of political cartoons. Similar to the one in my discussion response, I think they were one of the best forms of artistic activism. Without social media, those cartoons got the message across because it activated emotions. People began to feel towards the drawings, whether it was angry or sad, and decided to make a change. It is the most creative forms of activism in my opinion also. People are able to express how they feel about a topic through something other than words.
The first painting I chose in my discussion is a controversial piece, but it invokes feelings in people. The article notes that artistic activism is overall peaceful. Although I agree, I think its more so the intention of the artist that is peaceful, not peoples perspectives. Art that portrays men in weak positions or going through women’s struggles usually strikes a nerve. Thats what I love about it. Something as simple as a painting causes an uproar by who the art was targeting. The cartoon I posted was important to me because the babies symbolized the generations coming up. With only men at the time having a say in politics, the next generation would be ruled under the same sexist society. Womens suffrage was in desperate need and i’m glad we have it, but there’s more that needs to be done!
With social media existing, art has opened up endless opportunities for progression. We are in the age of using art and aesthetics to get our points across and I love it.

in this week’s reading I learned about the actual meaning behind artistic activism. I had heard this wording before but I didnt know what it actually meant considering I learned about it when I was In high school. art is a way for artists of all kind to express themselves and like it was explained in the reading sometimes its hard to understand them or see their point of view but depending on the arm with sometimes feel how they feel wether is joy or pain, whatever the case might be. reflectin on this readings I understand better that a simple thing can be considered artistic activism. I see a lot of them on my instagram sometimes when artist talk about an active problem through their drawing and I would understand it without even having any words. now days is simple to come up with something and share it on social media and it could be a drawing or video or a poster just talking about a problem you wish more people would know about. back then about 70 or 80 years ago when our ancestors were alive the only way they would see this kind of art would be through newspaper or in a march where people held posters expressing their feelings and how it can be changed. now days with all this technology is so much easier to share with all these social media apps. whenever soemthing is happen I quickly get updated on it because of social media because tons of my friends share it, its amazing how technology can be so helpful when it comes to fighting for a cause. There are many things that we don’t pay much attention to due to our occupations, but artist activism is a very good strategy to promote and reach society. As in the reading said ¨the goal of activism is action to create an Effect¨ Within this caused effect, it has a lot to do with moving our feelings, moving us emotionally and altering our perception of things. Art moves the heart, body, and soul, whereas activism moves the tangible world, both complement each other. Social change does not happen by accident; it occurs when individuals choose to change. People are personally driven to change their minds and act in accordance by emotionally compelling stimuli, this is a good strategy to reach society much faster. Now, talking about the piece of art that I chose I completely think that this is a situation that we continue living. It is very important that we remember that we all have the same rights, that your gender does not matter. It is necessary to eliminate the wage disparity between men and women, which has a negative influence on the economic stability of women, families, and communities of color. And the most important thing, a salary transparency because women’s work should not be devalued.

Artistic activism uses art and activism to bring about a change in the society. In today’s world, where issues seem to be never ending, it can feel quite overwhelming to try to commit to all the multiple causes we feel strongly about. Add to that our diminishing attention span, it is clear why artistic activism, a dynamic, innovative practice that makes a lasting impression calls to most people.
Artistic activism can act as a stepping stone for people who want to participate in activism, but do not know where to start. It is often times an emotional response to whatever’s happening around, and as such there is no hard and fast rules about what can be consider artistic activism or not. Furthermore, it is accessible to people that may not be able to physically participate in protests and rallies, and people that aren’t able to vote. Similarly, it can start at a small scale level and make news overnight, which may be a little difficult for traditional activism. This is not to say that one is better, or more significant. We have always combined all forms of activism throughout history to bring changes.
The beauty about artistic activism is one can integrate their individual skills in whatever way they want to deliver whatever message they want. Whether it’s Carmen Beuchat fusing dance with photography, video, poetry, and performance art or Adrian Piper dressing up as a man and engaging in stereotypical masculine behavior, the range and possibilities of artistic activism is limitless, and there’s always room for more.

For my Reflection I decided to talk about my printing. I think women should educate men on how they make us feel. I don’t believe men to be the ones to take the blame. Although they are not the victims here. I have spent a good part of my premature adulthood observing the male and female behavior. Women are more aware of how they make a person feel. They read any room they are in. Men on the other hand have no real sense of observation. They do as they please. I don’t mean to bash men as they are wonderful human beings, it’s just they will always lack qualities that women have. For instance, a man would make breakfast for himself and leave the pots on the stone. However, a woman would make breakfast and clean the stove off. My point is men don’t pay attention to many things. They don’t realize how it makes people feel to clean up after them constantly. Now going back to the art piece, the lady is sad and weeping. The man is clearly not aware of how he is making her feel and continues to speak to her. I wish to be a part of a society where men and women are both aware of how they make one another feel. Whether you are a stranger or husband and wife.

One thing I’ve always had trouble with is depicting art, and although I still do, “Why Artistic Activism” made me think about art in ways that I have never thought of. As stated in the reading, with art, its goal is to make you feel something or can spark a change in how you perceive something, and with the images I shared in my post, I felt just that. Art activism is just as powerful as regular activism, you just have to truly alter our perception and pay attention to the smallest of details, they were put there for a reason. I also began thinking about art activism much deeper and connecting it to things that I’ve seen throughout my own life. When I attended the Women’s March, for example, or the protests for George Floyd, the artistic banners and signs that were brought were much more than just signs. They were powerful messages made through images and logos such as handcuffs on a uterus or the powerful Black Panther Party logos. I also enjoyed getting to learn about the many female performance artists. Some of my favorites include Ana Monietta, Joan Jonas, and Carolee Schneeman. They all have incredible artistic abilities that convey messages and can invoke feelings through their art which many can gaze at and appreciate. In my other course, Critical Thinking: Inquiry Through Queer Theories, we are also looking at art and trying to be as descriptive as possible when it comes to analyzing it!
