Ciara Cardona-discussion board 1

Hi my name is Ciara Cardona and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I’m 20 years old. I’m Puerto Rican but was born and raised in NYC. I’m really focused on getting my associate’s degree in psychology before my baby is born. I’m taking this course because I wanted to expand my knowledge. I don’t have any specific topics I’d like to cover honestly because I don’t know much about these kinds of things.

Introduction

Hi, my name is Nerilisa Gonzalez and this is my 3rd semester at bmcc. I am passionate about completing my degree being that I am a first generation college student. I am also a mother to three beautiful children who give me life and the strength I need to make it through. Being a single mother plus working and pursuing a degree is no easy task however, i refuse to give up. Unfortunately, I got a late start with my intro being that it’s my first time on this platform. It was nerve wrecking for me trying to navigate since i’m horrible with technology. Thankfully i’m here and can’t wait to see what this semester brings out of me.

Roxana Marin discussion 1

My name is Roxana Marin. I am 19 years old, I go by the pronouns she/her. This is my second year at Borough of Manhattan Community College. My current major  is Liberal Arts but I have been thinking about changing my major to Psychology. I was born in Brooklyn but raised in Queens. My parents are Mexican and I have one older brother. My brother is someone I look up to, he is a great role model for me and the reason I keep working hard in both school and work.I do not have much time for myself since I’ve been balancing my classes with two jobs but in my free time I love to explore new places and travel. I have explored different museums and locations in New York City and New Jersey. I have traveled to Florida and Mexico as well. I also love trying new food from different countries. I enjoy playing volleyball and going for long walks whether it is by myself or with my family. I am also very huge with streetwear, specifically shoes. The main shoes I like to wear are Jordans and Yeezys. Reason I like the shoes is because of its unique style and design. Apart from shoes I also like clothes , from cargo pants to plaid shirts , from sweatpants to oversized hoodies.Though the semester just started , I am excited to see what this course brings. I am taking this course because I believe it is very interesting and important to learn about the different perspectives of gender and women’s studies, especially in today’s society. I hope to learn more about the different beliefs that society considers appropriate for men and women including privileges, sexuality and race. There are things I value , which are my family and my education. My dream is to be financially stable and travel the world. I would love to visit Japan, Brazil, France, India , Spain etc. In the future I would also love to open my own little dessert store. I am trying to better my baking which includes cake pops, apple pie, cookies and different flavors and decorations for cupcakes. I am also interested in learning how to make zeppoles and cannolis.   My hopes are to finish my associates degree and be able to transfer into another college , leaning towards NYU , with a major that I will be interested in. In case my major does not go to plan I do have a back up plan , since I do want to open a little dessert shop , I would also be Interested in going into culinary school to improve my baking skills .

Intro

My name is Vitória Moros, and I’m working towards becoming a modern-day renaissance woman. I’m 19 and studying to get a degree in Liberal Arts. I have interests in politics, writing, philosophy, and art, so liberal arts was a perfect major that allows me to indulge in all of that. I was born in Recife, Brazil, and migrated to America when I was about seven years old. I’ve lived in New York City since, but I always go back and visit and miss my homeland every day. I’m in love with music, art, photography, writing, and fashion. When it comes to music I listen to pretty much everything but my main rotation is mostly indie rock and bregrafunk. The main form of art that I enjoy the most is digital art, different forms of animation created graphically. I feel like it just looks so cool and realistic and there is something about creating a fantasy with such vivid colors that you can see on a big screen or interact with or even become a part of. I just find everything about it amazing. When it comes to photography I have been doing it since the age of 12. I love calling my friends over and using them as a subject and just having fun. Photography gives me the ability to create a different reality from reality. With just a few props and good lighting, my friends and I can be anything we want to be. It’s just so fun. to capture and experience, a person, or just a setting from a certain place in time. Photography can even be utilized for historical purposes. It’s just a multi-use kind of medium and I appreciate that. I’m very passionate about writing and it’s where I best common irate my thoughts. I hope that in the nearing future I’m able to publish at least two books. At last, we have fashion and it’s just something I admire and pay attention to a lot. I like to see how other people put certain items together and how they express themselves. Essiantely I believe that if you are into fashion you are aware of how what you wear sends out a certain expression about yourself. I think it’s something people can have fun with and fluctuate around different esthetics. In the future, I want to make enough money so I can live a life where I mainly focus on creating new things. I’m taking this class not just to learn something new, but I feel like it is pivotal to understand what being a woman in society means.

Introduction 1 Talisha Dwyer

My name is Talisha. I am twenty-two years old. I am currently a Liberal Arts major. However, I am looking to pursue a degree in psychology and hopefully becoming a Forensic Psychologist one day. I am very passionate about help others and assisting them overcome their past trauma. I am a child welfare case worker, so I am already experiencing my passion in making peoples life easier and helping them reach their goals. I am also an independent makeup artist. I just recently decorated my shop, build a website and a social media. I am very hard working, optimistic and courageous. This year is a game changer for me because I am acting on my goals rather than speaking.

I am a Jamaican. I was raised in Jamaica for most of my life. I vacationed in New York every year of my life before coming to live at the age of 16 years old. All of my five siblings were born in New York City, and I was born in Jamaica where we were all grew up. My parents sent me here to get a better education and become a successful citizen. I was not sure what I wanted to be in the future. I have experienced so much in the different jobs I’ve worked in. From being a home health aide to a substitute teacher and now a child welfare case worker. I love to learn to do new things and I have acquired skills that will assist me in promoting myself in many areas of life.  My role model is my dad, he is an entrepreneur that owns Mutiple businesses, and I want to be like him some day. He taught me that in life you don’t have one option, you can choose as many as you want and that what really defines you. My mother is also a major part of who I am becoming. She plays a strong role in my life, reminding me to put God first in everything I do. She also motivates me to do my best in everything I do. She is my cheerleader and I love her so much for being my down to earth angel. Without her I am lost, and I ask God to continue to flourish my family and life with his finest blessings. So, am I only thinking about becoming a forensic psychology? No, I am thinking about learning as much skills as possible so I can become the best me. GWS was a required course however, I am very excited about learning new things and I can’t wait to see what it offers. I am also very excited to engage with my classmates and teacher.

Discussion Post 1: Shanice Peters

My name is Shanice Peters. I am 19 years old and this is my second year at BMCC. My pronouns are she/her. To be honest, I don’t like Bmcc, so far my experience has been a never-ending list of horrible professors. I received my first F in college last semester and I was feeling down about it. Especially since it was out of my control. Nevertheless, I was not going to let one F keep me down any longer. I cried about it but now I am ready to kill education with my brilliance. I believe one of my best qualities is that I am known as a social butterfly, who comes home to be alone just to listen to music in my thoughts. I love to engage in interesting conversations and make others laugh. Someone once told me “ Shanice if you don’t become a comedian then I don’t know” Music is probably the best thing humans ever created. It tells stories of people who go through hard times or good times. It is like therapy for not only the mind but the soul. My life long dream has always been to become a Nurse Practitioner. Especially for children and mothers. Which brings me to Bmcc and to this class here today. GWS 100 is one of the courses I need to be one step closer to becoming a nurse practitioner. I am not familiar with gender women studies, however I hope to learn more about the study of women. How we think, why we think the way we do, the importance of what makes a woman, etc. I’m more of a visual learner, very hands-on down and dirty type of gyal. I don’t believe I am the smartest person but if I keep a positive attitude and work hard, I can be on the level of whoever the smartest person is. I also want to major in psychology and English. Growing up I’ve had a passion for creative writing and writing poetry. I am currently in the process of writing my first ever poetry book. Becoming a therapist is kind of new to me. I enjoy listening to others speak when they feel like no one else hears them. I want others to have me as a listening ear. I hope we all pass with flying colors, Good luck to everyone!

Isaiah Introduction

  • Hello Everyone, My name is Isaiah Alicea. I go by by the pronouns of He, Him, His. I’m a liberal arts major at BMCC. This will be my final semester (Hurray!) I was born and raised in Harlem but currently my mind is in Puerto Rico where everything is warmer.
In my professional world I am an Assistant Program Director for a community center in the uptown Manhattan area. I have interest in many things but mostly the Art & Community engagement. My focus is to utilize art as a way to engage community with the goal to evolve them. I’m taking this class because I simply find it interesting. I am excited to explore the intersection between race and gender. I don’t have many suggestions for material that would be helpful but I do think that the book “Bad Feminist” is a very insightful read as it pertains to women’s perspective to the world.

Jazmine Hernandez – Disscussion 1

Hello ! My name is Jazmine I am a Liberal Arts major, a sophomore at BMCC , and my last semester with BMCC. (If it works well for me ) I am turning 21 in May, I am a full time student and full time worker. I currently work for a hospital Mount Sinai and it can be very over whelming and frustrating when trying to balance school and work. On my free time I’ve decided to read more books in a year, I recently read “Where the Crowdads Sing” by Delia Owens 10/10 great book! I am currently now reading ” They Both Die in the End” by Adam Silvera. This year I want to have more goals such as being more organized with things and manage my time better, (in which any advice is would be great). As a liberal arts major I’ve been deciding on changing my major to Criminal Justice or Social Work due to my experiences. I’ve been working in medical fields since I started working and decided helping people is something I enjoy doing and still trying to find a passion within Criminal Justice and Social work. I am taking this course because I want to learn more about gender and women. In today’s world this is a big topic and I’m interested in having a deeper understanding and perspective.
