Labor rights, suffrage and the equal rights amendment are all related because they go hand in hand. It’s all fighting for the same thing in a way, suffrage is the right to vote, having the right to vote shows that we’re more then second class citizens and that we have a voice, that we can chose who runs our country and the changes we’d like to made. Equal rights amendment is to guarantee legal rights for all citizens regardless of gender. Labor rights is issues of gender justice because All genders can and are exploited, working in harsh conditions in sweatshops factories etc, hours a day with no breaks, extremely dangerous work conditions and the wage is low. Although it was abolished in the US In 1930’s it’s far from the end of unfair labor. Ive see historical issues enacted in todays society many times, women still being treated as second class citizens in work place, being paid less then their male coworkers. A few months ago there was a strike in Haiti of sweatshop workers that worked around the clock for a measly $5 dollars a day. Their goal? To be paid $15 a day. Although we have changed many laws in the US there’s lots of work to still be done.

    Hi Rachel ,

I enjoyed reading your response. Even though the United States has passed lots of bills to protect workers rights to safe work environments and equal pay for their work people still find loop holes in the system. When big corporations want to pay less for the work they demand they avoid creating it in the U.S and go to countries that are desperate for work and pay. They abuse these countries since they don’t have laws of their workplaces like us.

    Hello Rachel,
Thanks for pointing out that labor issues impact both men and women, and not just women. Labor issues are imperative because they form our economy and have much to do with our personal lives. It is saddening to see how these huge companies under capitalist mentality exploit their workers, regardless of the consequences, in order to obtain their checks. I think it is important for us as consumers to stop enabling this kind of treatment and fight towards more equal, fair working opportunities.

Hello Rachel, I found interesting reading your post and I totally agree with the idea that both genders can be exploited in their work. As you said, women are the first ones that are affected because people see us as second place. But, in the other side its also about other points that are behind this situation such as race, color, your background. These big companies just think about themselves and to continue working to get bigger and bigger

Rachael I agree labor issues impact both men and women. We need or men to stand up for us women as well. If we grow our children to know that human equality is very important in the world maybe we can start changing our society also continuing our activism.
