Jazmine Hernandez- Discussion 2

What I understood from the quote “a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression” is to fight for equality. hat I didn’t know was that there was more to that such as establishing a political, economic, personal, and social equality. between both sexes. Although it’s about having equal rights and opportunities, it’s about having a level of respect for our experiences, identities, and empower women of all rights. Personally, I feel no one is better than the other. Therefore, men and women are capable of doing anything. We all deserve to be equal no matter who we are. After reading Sex and Gender 101, I had a better understanding between them, such as ” there are several different sex chromosome variations that intersex persons can have.” I believed choosing a gender was just based on personality and how you portrait yourself. I also think society pressures us at a young age to act the gender we are assigned with at birth and in many cases can be uncomfortable for many who don’t accept how they are born. Many of these problems wouldn’t be an issue if things like femininity wasn’t assigned sex of masculinity as well.

I enjoyed reading your reflection Jazmine and I agree that society has definitely played a role on sex and gender when it comes to us as human beings. The amount of people that get scrutinized because they don’t understand how hard it is for individuals to identify or accept themselves is just sad. Yes stop putting a label on things and just let people live their lives, who is society to judge. I believe in getting to know people no matter what they identify themselves as. Thank you for your insight to the reading.
