There is a saying in China: give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. In an art history class where data can be overwhelming, I believe in teaching student the different ways to interpret that data to help them understand the world.
What is learner-focused about my syllabus is that I ask my students to co-create the class with me. Also, as far as the writing assignments go, all students are free to choose which texts they write about; this also holds true for the research paper: students are free to choose a research topic which resonates with them — as long as it is thematically connected to a text we have read and discussed in class during the semester,
