Please note that you have five days to write this exam.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><mark><strong>Due date: Monday, 10\/21\/24, by midnight<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/mark><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><mark><strong>How to submit your exam<\/strong>:<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Write (or save) your exam as a Microsoft Word document (.DOC, .DOCX) in Google Docs, Office 365 or Microsoft Office. &nbsp;Don\u2019t forget to write your name and email address on your exam.\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>If you forget to write your name on your exam paper, you won\u2019t get credit for the exam, because I won\u2019t know who wrote it, thus you may fail the class<\/strong><strong>(given<\/strong><strong> that the final exam is worth 40% of the final grade).<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No exams in PDF format will be read or given credit<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>Click on the following link to upload your exam: &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/request\/hIGypwzFYAw71VXlYYnT\">https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/request\/hIGypwzFYAw71VXlYYnT<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grading:\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li>Your exam will be graded as follows: each question is worth 25 points, 4 x 25 = 100 points in total. Then, your number grade will be converted into a letter grade, following the official BMCC grading sheet: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmcc.cuny.edu\/academics\/policies\/grading-policies\/grading-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">https:\/\/www.bmcc.cuny.edu\/academics\/policies\/grading-policies\/grading-system\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Things to keep in mind when you write your exam<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>NOTE: It may be tempting for some, but please do not use ChatGPT or other such stupid, human approximating crutches to write the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"1\">\n<li><strong>REMEMBER: YOU ALL KNOW SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT YOU WRITE ON EXAMS! EX: ANSWER A QUESTION, AND WALK AWAY FROM IT. COME BACK 2 DAYS LATER, AND IF YOU FEEL THE URGE TO ADD 2-3 MORE SENTENCES, DEFINITELY ADD THEM &#8211; IT\u2019LL ONLY MAKE YOUR ARGUMENT STRONGER\/CLEARER. Don\u2019t be cheap with your words!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"2\">\n<li>T<strong>his is <\/strong><strong>an open book and open notes exam<\/strong><strong>. This means, when answering the questions, you can use all of the materials available on our class website<\/strong><strong>(by<\/strong><strong> this I mean: lecture notes, assigned readings, and your own homework assignments). However, <\/strong><strong><em>YOU MUST NOT USE ANY OUTSIDE INFORMATION. ANY OUTSIDE INFORMATION WILL BE NOT GIVEN CREDIT. ALSO, EVERYTHING IN YOUR ANSWERS MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>.<\/em><\/strong> No quotes from any of the readings or videos (you must paraphrase, put everything in your own words).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your answers to the questions on this exam, are supposed to be in short <strong>essay form. &nbsp;This means the typical answer should be in the range of one page minimum(or, 300 words minimum). <\/strong>You exam paper should be written in size 12 font, and be double-spaced. Answers containing 1-2 sentences are way too brief on details, and will probably loose most of the credit.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" id=\"block-7f96149e-3b97-4406-bc23-703fde3e9b62\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">EXAM QUESTIONS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-48fe1b99-f4aa-486d-8dff-baaf011d59e6\">Question 1<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-9f3ddfb8-4bf5-4dee-a250-8f14902f0a13\">What was W.E.B. DuBois&#8217; initial encounter with racism? Where did it take place? How does he describe it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-027f3b95-f6ef-4855-b5c9-0eb32e32b87c\">Question 2<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-7be992d0-a2e5-406f-ac28-24476a52bf8d\">In our discussion of W.E.B. DuBois, what does double consciousness tell us about how racism functions in politics? Don\u2019t forget to give an example to illustrate your point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-3edf9997-a609-403e-be88-042e897c5e2a\">Question 3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Following our discussion of Michel Foucault, show how political power changed from\u201cpower over death\u201d(sovereign power), to\u201cpower over life\u201d(disciplinary power). (hint: &nbsp;your essay must explain what &#8220;sovereign power&#8221; and \u201cdisciplinary power\u201d are). Provide examples to reinforce your arguments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"block-5bb6fb53-b4eb-4438-9985-d3a6372d6097\">Question 4<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"block-ed1b5b57-3bdf-4919-afd6-3303103847b1\">What makes &#8220;disciplinary power&#8221; (or, &#8220;power over life&#8221;) possible? I.e.: what tools, techniques and technologies are necessary for it?
