1) The repressive apparatus state is a concept used to control the people. He uses the word repressive because, it restrains the freedom of the people. Examples include police, courts, and prisons which control you through the threat of violence.
2) Ideological State Apparatuses prevent change to the status quo and include schools, politics, and the mass media. Examples include, politics maintaining the status quo by giving you a choice so you feel like you have some responsibility towards the society you live in. However in today’s democracies you have a choice between barely distinguishable parties.
3) Repressive Apparatus State aim to control physically through violence and fear. Ideological State Apparatuses control more psychologically through people’s mind and thought processes. For example through the media and education.
This is an example of repressive apparatus because police are aiming to control through violence and fear.
