Althusser calls it \u201crepressive\u201d because it uses punishment or threats to make people obey.<br>Example: The police are repressive because they can arrest people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An Ideological State Apparatus is a group that controls people through ideas and beliefs. It does not use force but makes people follow rules by teaching them values.<br>Example: Schools are ideological because they teach us how to think and behave in society.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The difference is how they control people. Repressive State Apparatuses use power, punishment, or force. Ideological State Apparatuses use beliefs, values, and culture to make people obey willingly.<br>Example: The army (repressive) vs. the church (ideological).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Example of ideology: The movie The Hunger Games shows how the Capitol uses both fear and ideas to control people.
