Madison says property comes from the “diversity in the faculties of men,” meaning people’s different abilities in acquiring property. No, I slightly agree but majorly disagree. Sure, talent and ability does have a hand in acquiring wealth, but only for some. This definition leaves out how majority acquired wealth: inheritance, inequality in education, and major groups were legally prohibited from owning anything (such as slaves and women).

4. Madison says it is “the protection of different and unequal faculties of acquiring property,” so the government’s core mission is protecting property, especially the property of the wealthy. Today’s government is described as serving the people: protecting freedom, providing security and welfare etc., although the influence of money and the wealthy shows that Madison’s description of the core mission may still be as such.

5. Madison preferred a Republican form of government because pure democracy meant majority wins, and the majority of the population was (and still is) the poor/middle class people. They would have all supported against the wishes of the wealthy class (one example: by supporting debt relief schemes). He and the framers of the Constitution all worried for their own wealth and assets.

2.
