This page provides guidelines, grading rubric and templates.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">SUMMARY<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>In groups of three or four, create a media campaign to support a social cause you care about.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Try to<\/span><b> narrow down your topic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as much as possible. For example: \u201cGlobal Warming\u201d is a vast subject that could be hard to tackle as a whole, but \u201cGlobal Warming\u2019s impact on the coral reef\u201d is a narrower topic that better lends itself to this project\u2019s scope.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here are some<\/span><b> possible topics <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8211; you are welcome to pick from one of these or to come up with your own:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Go vote! How local elections impact BMCC students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Affordable childcare for all New Yorkers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Affordable housing for all New Yorkers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supporting a local Food-coop<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">School integration in NYC<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Using gender-inclusive pronouns<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why compost?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Banning cars from NYC<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Species extinction caused by global warming<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The rise of white-supremacy<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Create a campaign for New Roots Institute (<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__http:\/\/www.newrootsinstitute.org__;!!Jjn2ZwtPC4Q!bn8_kJBWE47TWgLjbMN0IMJhrrtDKA7xApi3UQ59igl3VLDtX_zSEK46DU7JzCUUfxVShP5BO2yULHUNcJOyYyYDk2o$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"2\">www.newrootsinstitute.org<\/a>), in which case you will receive feedback from the non-profit several times throughout the semester.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your<\/span><b> target audience should be narrow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> too. Who are you trying to convince of the importance of this issue? \u201cEveryone\u201d may sound nice and inclusive, but it\u2019s unlikely to be very effective. The age, gender, education, location etc. of your audience should impact the way you design every part of your project &#8211; from your choice of media to your color palette. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your project should include at least <\/span><b>three<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of the following components: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Screen-based experience (website or app)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social media \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Web-based advertising (banners, email campaigns)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Print<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Animation and\/or Video<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Digital fabrication (i.e: stickers, t-shirts, totes, pins, jewelry, coasters, keychain etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Physical computing (i.e: a site-specific interactive installation, sensor-triggered wearable etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ORIGINALITY<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Your campaign should have a cohesive visual and conceptual approach. It should engage the user by offering a unique take on the issue at hand. Look at what already exists in the media landscape around your topic and try to create something that adds to the conversation. If the campaign includes a website, it should be more than a static pages with text and images &#8211; it should include interactions and\/or motion graphic that illustrate the message of the campaign. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">PROJECT PROPOSAL<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The first step will be to create a project proposal. No matter your theme\/concept\/format, you should submit: <\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <\/span><span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>c<\/strong><\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1Bv9xICohCeJz4GsSBqH_IM8qcznDITtz8FqHYBBBCK4\/edit?usp=sharing\">reative brief<\/a><\/b><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">outlining your campaign\u2019s measurable goals and target audience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/open?id=1Q2DpCRdUApWgkWruvCV_tfHfZ-hpOove\"><b>project task analysis<\/b><\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">outlining the production workflow for each element of the campaign. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Depending on the media you will be using, the <\/span><b>visual <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">part of your proposal should include:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Screen-based experience (website or app): wireframes, sketches for logos and other digital images<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Social media : A description of what the social media part of the campaign will include (text, images, etc.) and how you expect the audience to engage with it. If you plan on creating images\/animation (i.e: for instagram posts) include sketches\/a storyboard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Physical computing: sketches and circuit diagrams<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Web-based advertising (banners, email campaigns), Print, Digital fabrication: sketches<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Animation (Quicktime or GIF): storyboard (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/11iK2RjmQPe7PD7ASU7j8vxPqi5ufWkPz\/view\">use this template<\/a><\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Each team will have to <\/span><b>present their proposal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to the class. The presentation should clearly outline the campaign, show that adequate research was done to establish what currently exists around the issue and how the campaign adds to the discussion. Measurable goals should also be clearly stated. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">TEAM WORK<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since this is a group project, it is essential that the group dynamic, means of communication and assigned roles are well defined from the start. Each member of the group should contribute equally. Talk among each other to see the type of skills and interests each member has and divide tasks to best take advantage of your individual strengths. At the end of the project each of you will be asked to fill a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1qWRJ_qDYKVgQxdlR0WWsEeFHHXhNo0AW\/edit?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=100336134572933207769&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\"><b> teamma<\/b><b>te evaluation form<\/b><\/a>\u00a0as well as an <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1F5mMkkxK4prKzj1cEVoYkPaxlBOGt0ur\/edit?usp=sharing&amp;ouid=100336134572933207769&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\"><strong>individual contribution form<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to give an account of how much you feel each member contributed to the final piece.
