Of course, good images\/videos of a final piece are essential, but documenting the different stages of your process &#8211; both visually and in writing &#8211; is important too.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Why document?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Help others understand your work.<\/li>\n<li>Deepen your own understanding and collect resources for future projects.<\/li>\n<li>Enhance your portfolio \/ open up career opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>What questions should good documentation answer?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>What is the name of this project?<\/li>\n<li>Who worked on it \/ in what capacity?<\/li>\n<li>When was it made?<\/li>\n<li>What technology\/materials were used?<\/li>\n<li>If the project is heavily influenced by an object or technique, please list your sources.&nbsp; Post images, links to blogs, videos, etc.&nbsp; Give credit where credit is due.<\/li>\n<li>What need is being addressed \/ what is the goal of this project?<\/li>\n<li>Who is the target audience \/ user?<\/li>\n<li>Is the piece interactive? If so, how does the user interact with it?<\/li>\n<li>What was the creative process like (prototypes, challenges etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>What tools to use?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Photos (for raw materials, mid-process images, final piece)<\/li>\n<li>Video, Stop-motion, GIFs (for documenting interactions)<\/li>\n<li>Scanner (for works on paper\/flat documents)<\/li>\n<li>Screenshots (for software)<\/li>\n<li>Text<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>How to assemble\/share your documentation?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Create a digital portfolio &#8211; this could be a website (you can easily create one with <a href=\"https:\/\/themeisle.com\/blog\/portfolio-site-on-wordpress\/\">WordPress,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tumblr.com\">Tumblr<\/a> or&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.squarespace.com\/hc\/en-us\/articles\/210295778-Building-a-portfolio-site\">Squarespace<\/a>) or an account on a popular media sharing platform (i.e: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.nethttps:\/\/www.behance.net\">Behance.net<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\">Vimeo<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>Short posts on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/challenge\/\">Instagram<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\">Twitter <\/a>and other social media platforms can be a great way of building an audience. You can always link to more in depth documentation from there.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure you also save all your documentation and files for your projects on an external hard drive and on a cloud based storage (i.e: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\/\">Dropbox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/drive\/\">Google drive<\/a>). You want to make sure you can reformat\/reuse them in the future).
