Week G

After seeing this movie and connecting it to the definition of personal selling, I would put the Joneses in this category. The Jones family used their platform (being “wealthy,” throwing parties, having conversations to influence people, and so on) to persuade others to buy the products they received, and the more people who bought the products they used, the more profit they made. The Jones family’s sales tactics are similar to those used by high-end brands because these brands promote the idea that in order to be liked or influential, you must buy their products. After watching this movie and reading the course materials, I realized that the way the products are marketed is unethical because it forces people to try to pay for a lifestyle they cannot afford. For example, Larry viewed his friendship with Steve as a competition after a while of knowing him, and as a result, he had multiple bills unpaid as a result of trying to maintain a lifestyle he couldn’t afford. Going by my current mentality, I would not feel any particular way being friends with someone who was a member of the Jones family, even after their secret was revealed, because to be honest, I don’t worry about how someone lives or what they have. And I just want to thank professor buckler for allowing us to watch this movie because at first I thought it would be boring or that I wouldn’t like it, but I was wrong, and it was a good movie that I might want to watch again someday.

Week E

The Kettle Gryp is the product that most resonated with me after watching Shark Tank episode 13. This piqued my interest because, as someone who has weights at home, I can easily convert them to dumbbells without spending any extra money. Not only will I use them, but anyone else in my household who works out will be able to use them as well, which is convenient for everyone. It also provides safety when using them and is portable, making it very convenient.

This item is marketed as a portable dumbbell adapter, allowing users to perform all kettlebell exercises with any dumbbell weight up to 55 pounds. It enables you to perform wings, upright rows, overhead presses, flexibility, and range of motion exercises. This product allows you to perform kettlebell exercises in a safe manner and allows you to do these exercises at home or in a gym because it is portable. This machine is not only portable and safe, but it is also very inexpensive, costing $34.95.

After reviewing all aspects of this product, one suggestion that may appeal to consumers is custom colors instead of the orange. When purchasing this product, there should be a wide color variation because not many people will want a bright orange kettle Gryp.

Week C: Consumer Decision Making

When looking for a place to eat, I usually have a few criteria’s in mind, such as the ratings, whether I can dine in, how spacious it is, and does the food appeal to me.

First, I decided on the type of restaurant or food I wanted to eat, which was an Italian restaurant.

Second, I decided to conduct some research using Google Maps. I like using Google Maps because it shows me every restaurant that matches my search criteria, as well as ratings, pictures, menus, and reviews. After doing some research, a few restaurants piqued my interest, including Michelangelo’s On Main, Brio Italian Grille, and Osteria Amore.

Third, when evaluating each restaurant, I considered the seating arrangements or space, menu pricing, food pictures, and ratings. Starting off with Osteria Amore their rating which was a 4.7, the food looked nice, but it didn’t catch my eye, the pricing wasn’t too expensive, but the seating and space wasn’t enough for me. Next, I looked at Brio Italian Grille; their rating was 4.2, but their food did catch my eye quite a bit, the pricing was very reasonable, and they had great seating; it was also spacious, but there was a lot going on inside. Finally, Michelangelo’s on Main received the same rating as Brio Italian Grille; their food piqued my interest, their pricing was lower than both places, and the seating and space inside weren’t as large as Brio’s, but the atmosphere was appealing.

At last, after weighing all of my options, I’ve decided on Michelangelo’s On Main.

After all, what I discovered while conducting the consumer decision-making process is how many steps I take to make a decision on where to eat or whether to purchase a product. Also the influences that could have a positive or negative impact on my decision, because I always want to make sure I’ve made the best decision.

Week 1

Ethnicity and social responsibility are more important than ever in today’s world. People are concerned about whether a company has a good reputation in all areas, such as environmental contributions, ethnic support, volunteerism, and so on.

Target is a massive general merchandise retailer with thousands of stores across the country. It sells a wide range of products through its stores, including groceries, household essentials, electronics, appliances, apparel, and so on. Despite the fact that they sell these products, they have a sustainability project called Target Forward about which they claim,“ bring solutions that better serve our communities and our environment that can be seen across our business”.

They were able to make sustainable products with this project, monitoring how much waste their merchandise produce, what chemicals they use in their products, where they get their materials, and so on. Target plans on shifting to a zero-carbon economy they have taken a couple of steps to ensure this as stated above their sustainable products, the use of chemicals and materials, and so on.

Targets goal is to become the market leader for sustainable, inclusive brands and experiences by 2030. With this concept, they would provide inexpensive clean and truthful products. They are dedicated to eradicating, reducing, and finding viable solutions for plastic in their products, with the goal of achieving zero waste to landfill in the United States by 2030. Target became the first U.S. retailer in 2017 to implement an extensive chemical management program across their entire supply chain and operation for every product that they sold. They also attempted to assist their suppliers in minimizing environmental harm when collecting materials.

“Target has projects and partnerships in place that, when complete, well we saw in our purchasing nearly 50% of are electricity from renewable sources”.

Not only does Target look for ways to help the environment and reduce their carbon footprint, but they are also committed to fulfilling people’s and the community’s needs. They promote human rights throughout the organization by investing in employees who work in their value chain and protecting the community through safety precautions. Target has supplied more than $50 million to societies impacted by a natural disaster in 2021, and it has also invested more than $1 billion in the health and safety of its team members and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. They also intend to work with suppliers who have policies and programs that promote gender equality.

Overall, even though target has an extensive history of supporting the environment and figuring out ways to produce more sustainable products and also supporting the community whether it’s investing money in them we’re trying to make a better environment for the people and their staff. I think that they should promote more of their work towards ethnic groups or ethnic communities.
