Fire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What makes a fire burn<\/p>\n\n\n\n

is space between the logs,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a breathing space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Too much of a good thing,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

too many logs<\/p>\n\n\n\n

packed in too tight<\/p>\n\n\n\n

can douse the flames<\/p>\n\n\n\n

almost as surely<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as a pail of water would.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So building fires<\/p>\n\n\n\n

requires attention<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to the spaces in between,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as much as to the wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we are able to build<\/p>\n\n\n\n

open spaces<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in the same way<\/p>\n\n\n\n

we have learned<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to pile on the logs,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

then we can come to see how<\/p>\n\n\n\n

it is fuel, and absence of the fuel<\/p>\n\n\n\n

together, that make fire possible<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We only need to lay a log<\/p>\n\n\n\n

lightly from time to time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A fire<\/p>\n\n\n\n

grows<\/p>\n\n\n\n

simply because the space is there,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

with openings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in which the flame<\/p>\n\n\n\n

that knows just how it wants to burn<\/p>\n\n\n\n
