Growing up as a Nigerian in the United States I was made conscious that my name was different from other people’s at a very young age, in elementary I used to wonder why people used to laugh when my last name was said when the teacher was taking attendance, to me my name was just a regular name, I almost grew not to like it until when I asked my parents the meaning and I then understood that my name comes from my ancestors and proud Nigerian heritage. I also started liking my last name even more when other Nigerians started Identifying me through it.<\/p>\n
