Sometimes, the message gets lost because we focus too much on sounding sophisticated with \u201cbig words.\u201d A story that reflects this idea well is <em data-start=\"419\" data-end=\"431\">The Lesson<\/em> by Toni Cade Bambara. She writes from the perspective of her younger self, which makes the language easier to follow. For example, she says, \u201cSo we heading down the street and she\u2019s boring us silly about what things cost and what our parents make and how much goes for rent\u201d (Bambara). Even though the writing has a Southern tone, the language stays simple and straightforward. Bambara gets her point across while making it feel like a child is narrating the story.
