He highlighted another side<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> to the themes an AI generator would normally write about.<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">Her encounter with Ms<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">. Moore is not viewed as an opportunity to learn but as an intruder <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">imposing her <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">condescending<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">opinions on<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> them<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">. Throughout the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">narrative,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> Sylvia<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> expresses her <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">disapproval of<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">Ms<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">Moore<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> based on other <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">adults&#8217;<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> views<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">.<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">She describes Ms. Moore\u2019s unwillingness <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">to dress <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">casually<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> and wear <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">makeup<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">as another display of her <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">superiority <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">compared to the rest of her community. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">W<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">e can see <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">Ms. Moore&#8217;s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> intentions in trying to educate the children, but from Sylvi<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">a\u2019s perspective, we do not see those intentions<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> come across clearly. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">This moment can be seen during the story when Sylvia <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">refuses to discuss<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">\u00a0her reaction to the toy store<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> with Ms. Moore<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> Sylvia s<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">truggles with her <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">conflicting feelings of growing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> awareness over the social inequality she is faced with as a child. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> Bambara\u2019s use <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">of Sylvia\u2019s<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">point of view<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">forces us to confront<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">social<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">inequality<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> in the same way she was forced to face it<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\"> through confusion and self-reflection. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW39623818 BCX0\">Through Sylvia\u2019s narration, we also see another type of injustice when children are left to navigate these inequalities alone.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW39623818 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:false,&quot;134233118&quot;:false,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:1,&quot;335551620&quot;:1,&quot;335559685&quot;:0,&quot;335559737&quot;:0,&quot;335559738&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:279}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>When Bambara made Sylvia the narrator of his story, he was able to immerse us through a child\u2019s perspective.
