Suggestions for expanding your knowledge of high-quality children\u2019s books:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Browse through the children\u2019s books at your local library.<\/li><li>Explore the collection of children\u2019s books at the BMCC Library.<\/li><li>Review the foundational and supporting texts in the <span class=\"has-inline-color has-blue-color\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infohub.nyced.org\/working-with-the-doe\/early-childhood\/early-childhood-educators\/supporting-quality-care-and-instruction\/instructional-resources\">NYCDOE Pre-K Curriculum Units<\/a>.<\/span><\/li><li>Explore themed children\u2019s booklists on various topics, such as this list of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.babylist.com\/hello-baby\/antiracist-books\">anti-racist books for young children\u00a0<\/a>or this list of books about\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curbed.com\/2019\/12\/12\/21002852\/best-kids-teens-books-cities-holiday-gifts\">where we live: cities<\/a>.<\/li><li>Look for lists of well-known and highly-respected children\u2019s authors, such as this list of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/time.com\/100-best-childrens-books\/\">100 Best Children\u2019s Books of All Time<\/a>\u00a0or this list of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingrockets.org\/article\/75-authorsillustrators-everyone-should-know\">Authors\/Illustrators Everyone Should Know<\/a>.<\/li><li>Learn about the various children\u2019s book awards, including:<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Caldecott Medal<\/li><li>Coretta Scott King Award<\/li><li>Ezra Jack Keats Award<\/li><li>Theodor Suess Geisel Award<\/li><li>Pura Belpre Medal<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For this assignment research children\u2019s books to support each sub-topic in your curriculum theme. Begin with the resources listed above, and find <strong>one high-quality children\u2019s book for each sub-topic<\/strong>. That\u2019s a total of <strong>five<\/strong> books. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Research each book to make sure it is high-quality and supports the big ideas and essential questions of the sub-topic. Learn about the author\/illustrator of each book. See if you can find a read-aloud of each book on Vimeo or YouTube.
