Me gustaba mucho el reto de construir mi portafolio. En mi caso, me avanc\u00e9 por el programa de certificado tomando una clase a la vez. Muy diferente de alumnos que est\u00e1n tomando 15 horas o m\u00e1s cada semestre. En este sentido, mi trabajo alrededor del portafolio era muy manejable. Debo admitir que no pod\u00eda usar mis contactos en HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) para aprovecharlos al m\u00e1ximo. Trabaj\u00e9 con algunos documentos, y aprend\u00ed un poco sobre proyectos en marcha, pero no aprend\u00ed nada sobre sus servicios que est\u00e1n disponibles en sus oficinas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I very much liked the challenge of building my portfolio. In my case, I advanced through the certificate program taking one class at a time. Very different from students that are taking 15 hours or more each semester. In this sense, my work having to do with the portfolio was very manageable. I should admit that I wasn\u2019t able to use my contacts at HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) to fully take advantage of them. I worked with some documents, and learned a little about ongoing projects, but I didn\u2019t learn anything about their services that are available in their offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Una lecci\u00f3n a ser aprendida como parte de este ejercicio en una palabra: persistencia. Agencias como HIAS dicen que necesitan ayuda constantemente. Pero si tu quieres ser la persona precisa en el rol exacto, trabajando en un lugar conveniente para ti: eso requerir\u00e1 un poco de esfuerzo. Tambi\u00e9n, me sopresaba que HIAS no ten\u00eda una manera formal de evaluar voluntarios. HIAS me di\u00f3 un documento, me pregunt\u00f3 recomendar cambios, entonces me inform\u00f3 que todo est\u00e1 en las manos de \u201crevisi\u00f3n por pares”. Estra\u00f1o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A lesson to be learned as part of this exercise in a word: persistence. Agencies like HIAS constantly say they need help. But if you want to be the precise person in the exact role, working in a location convenient for you, that will require a little effort. Also, it surprised me that HIAS didn\u2019t have a way to formally evaluate volunteers. HIAS gave me a document, asked me to recommend changes, then told me that everything is in the hands of \u201cpeer review\u201d. Strange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Con respecto a mi trabajo en el transcurso de 4 clases, creo que he mejorado. Una gran parte del programa es desarrollar un entendimiento no solo el uso de la palabra correcta, sino tambi\u00e9n contexto. Es decir como un traductor o int\u00e9rprete, se tiene que decidir entre lenguaje formal, o m\u00e1s informal; textos que reflejan que una persona hable con propiedad, o con lenguaje coloquial. Aprend\u00ed que este \u201cTRS stuff\u201d es un arte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With respect to my work during the course of 4 classes, I believe I improved. A large part of the program is to develop an understanding not only of the correct word usage, but also context. That\u2019s to say, as a translator or interpreter, one has to decide between formal language or informal; texts that reflect that a person speaks with propriety or with colloquialisms. I learned that this \u201cTRS stuff\u201d is an art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00bfEl futuro? El futuro es incierto. Voy a tomar otras clases en BMCC; tal vez SPN 370. Tengo un poco de experiencia con los ex\u00e1menes \u201cDELE\u201d. Hace mucho tiempo consegu\u00ed un nivel B2. Ahora estoy haciendo preparaciones para tomar el \u201cCELU\u201d. CELU es el DELE de Argentina. Misma idea: una evaluaci\u00f3n muy comprensiva de sus habilidades en Espa\u00f1ol. \u00a1Des\u00e9ame suerte!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The future? The future is uncertain. I\u2019m going to take other classes at BMCC; maybe SPN 370. I have a little experience with the DELE exams. A long time ago I got to their B2 level. Now, I\u2019m making preparations to take the \u201cCELU\u201d. CELU is the DELE of Argentina. Same idea: a comprehensive evaluation of your Spanish skills.
