In this unit we will define entrepreneurship and understand how small businesses in the United States are vitally important to the health and stability of our economic system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We will clarify what we mean when we refer to a business as \u201csmall\u201d and review examples of how small businesses can expand rapidly or steadily over time. We will identify common traits of successful entrepreneurs and share examples of ideas turned to massive global organizations. We will examine the advantages and disadvantages of starting a small business, and seek to understand the steps of doing so, including reviewing and understanding the components of a business plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By the end of this unit, you should be able to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Define small business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discuss the contributions of small business to the U.S. economy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Define entrepreneur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify the different categories&nbsp;and common traits of entrepreneurs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>List common reasons for choosing to be an entrepreneur<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Describe&nbsp;the advantages and disadvantages&nbsp;of starting a small business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explain why some business ventures fail<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>In order to successfully complete this unit, you\u2019ll need to do the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Read <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/e\/entrepreneur.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this article from Investopedia<\/a><\/strong><sup>2<\/sup> and watch the 2-minute video embedded in the article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.
