This page for instructors explains how to set up a quiz, add questions, choose settings, present it to students, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting Started with Quizzes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the navigation bar, click&nbsp;<strong>Course Tools<\/strong>&nbsp;and select&nbsp;<strong>Quizzes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the&nbsp;<strong>Manage Quizzes<\/strong>&nbsp;page, click&nbsp;<strong>New Quiz<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the&nbsp;<strong>Name<\/strong>&nbsp;for your quiz.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Grade Out Of<\/strong>&nbsp;section, you can choose to&nbsp;<strong>Edit or Link to Existing,<\/strong>&nbsp;which links the quiz to an existing grade item (column) in the Grade Book, or you can choose to&nbsp;<strong>Add to Grade Book&nbsp;<\/strong>to create a new grade item.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Important:&nbsp;<\/strong>Select the&nbsp;<strong>Due Date<\/strong>. Due dates throughout Brightspace are useful because they\u2019re automatically entered on students\u2019 calendars and students will get reminders about due dates on their phones (if they\u2019ve downloaded the free Pulse App).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter an optional Description into the text field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Managing Questions <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, you are ready to add questions and choose appropriate settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the quiz itself, you can choose to either&nbsp;<strong>\u201cAdd Existing\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>\u201cCreate New\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;questions. While you could just build questions within the quiz, D2L recommends that you create and keep questions in the Question Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, after the Question Library is populated with questions, from the quiz, you choose\u00a0<strong>\u201cAdd Existing\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and then\u00a0<strong>\u201cBrowse the Question Library.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Create or Import Questions from the Question Library <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Question Library (QL), you can create, import, and organize all the questions you\u2019ll use in quizzes or tests. You can also create&nbsp;<strong>\u201cSections\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(which are essentially folders) and easily move questions into or out of them. You also have the option to use the QL Sections as pools for creating randomized quizzes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the Quizzes page, click on the Question Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then, click the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cNew<\/strong>\u201d button to set up Sections (which are essentially folders), or just start creating questions first and, optionally, move them into Sections later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Types of Questions Available in Brightspace<\/strong>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>True or False Question (T\/F)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multiple Choice Question (MC)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-Select Question (M-S)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Written Response Question (WR)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Short Answer Question (SA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Multi-Short Answer Question (MSA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill in the Blanks Question (FIB)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Matching Question (MAT)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ordering Question (ORD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Arithmetic Question (2+2)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significant Figures (x10)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Likert Question (LIK)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Importing Questions from Another Brightspace Course <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To do this, we don\u2019t work from within the Quizzes page, but we\u2019ll go to the \u201cImport\/Export\/Copy\u201d area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click the Gear icon on the top right of Brightspace and choose&nbsp;<strong>\u201cImport\/Export\/Copy Components.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose&nbsp;<strong>\u201cCopy Components from another Org Unit\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;(which means course) and click \u201cSearch for offering.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next page, you want to search for the course you want to copy from. Click&nbsp;<strong>\u201cSearch for Offering\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;and then enter a partial title or a single word that\u2019s in the course title. (It will only search courses you have access to). Then, click&nbsp;<strong>\u201cSearch\u201d<\/strong>, and when you\u2019ve selected the course you want to copy from, click the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cAdd Selected\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;button at the bottom.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now that the course you\u2019re copying from is shown as z click the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cSelect Component\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;button at the bottom of page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to either Quizzes or Question Library and choose all or a specific element. You might need to click&nbsp;<strong>\u201cExpand All\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;to see what\u2019s available. Select the questions or sections you want, and click continue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Finish<\/strong>. This may take a few minutes to complete. Once the copying is completed, you can find your copied elements either in the Quiz list or in the Question Library.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Move questions from existing Quizzes in the same course into the Question Library<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Quizzes can include bonus (or extra-credit) questions in them. Questions that won\u2019t hurt the student\u2019s overall score if they don\u2019t get them correct, but can improve the student\u2019s score if they do get them correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>&nbsp;Select the extra-credit (bonus) question(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>More Actions<\/strong>&nbsp;and select&nbsp;<strong>Toggle Bonus&nbsp;<\/strong>from the dropdown menu<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The text \u201cBONUS\u201d appears under the point value of the question (far right)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>De-select the question(s) when done.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note:&nbsp;<\/strong>The questions that are \u2018bonus\u2019 will not calculate into your total points for the quiz<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Utilize the Quiz Settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Availability Date Ranges and Other Access Restrictions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This setting is what will automatically hide and reveal a quiz on the dates\/times you designate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the&nbsp;<strong>Manage Quizzes<\/strong>&nbsp;page, click on the quiz to edit it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the&nbsp;<strong>Availability Dates &amp; Conditions<\/strong>&nbsp;section on the right, do any of the following:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set the opening date\/time when students can take the quiz and closing date\/time when it will no longer be available. Bear in mind:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you check the box to include availability dates on their calendars, the pros are that they will be able to plan for what\u2019s coming. The cons are if you have a lot of activities on your course calendar, it may add confusing clutter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u2019ve provided a link to the quiz within a Content Module (see \u201cLinking to Quizzes in Content Modules\u201d below), they will see an unclickable link to it there and its dates of availability. (This is only if you haven\u2019t also manually set its display to \u201chidden\u201d \u2013 indicated by the eye\/slash icon. In that case they will see nothing. You will need to manually change that setting to \u201cVisible\u201d for students to see or take the quiz.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Optional:<\/em>\u00a0Enter\u00a0<strong>Release Conditions<\/strong>. This is where you can choose to have students complete something else before they get access to the quiz. Read more\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/community.d2l.com\/brightspace\/kb\/articles\/3432-about-release-conditions\">about release conditions on the Brightspace Community<\/a>\u00a0site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Optional:<\/em>&nbsp;Enter Special Access.&nbsp;<strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: This is NOT where you enter accommodations settings. See below for quiz accommodations&nbsp;This is where you can grant access to specific students for perhaps a one-time different time period and with a different due date from the rest of the class. In the&nbsp;<strong>Special Access<\/strong>&nbsp;area, select your type of access and click&nbsp;<strong>Add Users to Special Access<\/strong>. Then specify properties: Due date and Availability Dates.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optional: Enter a&nbsp;<strong>Password<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hide-a-quiz-or-make-it-visible\">Hide a Quiz or Make it Visible<\/h3>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/hiddenstatus.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/hiddenstatus.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25845\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Hidden\/Visible overrides any other setting<\/strong>. So, if a quiz is set to be \u201cHidden,\u201d students won\u2019t be able to see it even after the availability date begins (see availability dates above). You can see if a quiz is hidden because an icon with an eye appears next to it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To hide or show a quiz, manually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>On the&nbsp;<strong>Manage Quizzes<\/strong>&nbsp;page, click the down arrow next to the quiz title and choose \u201cHide from Users.\u201d Then, to reveal it, the select the option to \u201cMake Visible to Users<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Alternatively, when editing a quiz, you can toggle between \u201cHidden\u201d and \u201cVisible\u201d at the bottom of the page near the Save button. You can also hide and reveal it where it\u2019s linked in a Content Module.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bear in mind that hiding is only controlled&nbsp;<em>manually<\/em>&nbsp;by you or a TA. You will have to manually set it to visible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"timing-display\">Timing &amp; Display of Quizzes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the&nbsp;<strong>Timing &amp; Display<\/strong>&nbsp;area, select a timing option for the quiz:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>For an untimed quiz,&nbsp;<em>uncheck<\/em>&nbsp;\u201cSet Time Limit\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do want to \u201cSet Time Limit\u201d you have several options to select\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Enter the minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click \u201cTimer Settings\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose from the settings described and click \u201cOK\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Note: The grace period option no longer exists<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose Paging option \u2013 how many questions displayed per page<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose whether to shuffle the questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Display: Hints are optional additions you can add to questions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disabling Email, etc. is not recommended as it only pertains to Brightspace tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Header and Footer are optional but be aware that if you have chosen to display one question per page, the header and footer will appear on each page.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"attempts-completion\">Attempts &amp; Completion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the&nbsp;<strong>Attempts &amp; Completion<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down, you can do any of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To change the number of attempts allowed, click&nbsp;<strong>Manage Attempts.&nbsp;<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Set how many attempts a learner can make on a quiz.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To allow learners to only retake incorrect questions, select the&nbsp;<strong>On new attempts, only allow answers for previously incorrect questions<\/strong>&nbsp;checkbox. For more information on how this affects learners, refer to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.d2l.com\/brightspace\/kb\/articles\/3671-retake-incorrect-quiz-questions-in-subsequent-attempts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Retake incorrect questions in subsequent attempts<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the number of attempts allowed is greater than 1, you must determine how the final grade is calculated. From the&nbsp;<strong>Overall Grade Calculation<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down menu, select one of the following options:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Highest Attempt<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Only the attempt with the highest grade is used as the final grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lowest Attempt<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Only the attempt with the lowest grade is used as the final grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Average of all Attempts<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 The average of the grades on all attempts is calculated and used as the final grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>First Attempt<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Only the grade on the first attempt is used as the final grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Last Attempt<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Only the grade on the last attempt is used as the final grade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the number of attempts allowed is greater than 1, an optional feature under&nbsp;<strong>+ Attempt Conditions<\/strong>&nbsp;allows you to determine minimum and\/or maximum scores that must be achieved by the learner to obtain the additional attempts.<br><strong>Note:<\/strong>&nbsp;If you enter a minimum score, then learners must achieve that set minimum score to receive the subsequent attempt. For example, if you only want learners who receive greater than 50% to receive a subsequent attempt, you can enter that value in the&nbsp;<strong>Min %<\/strong>&nbsp;field.<br>If you enter a maximum score, then learners can achieve up to that limit to receive subsequent attempts, but not greater than that limit. For example, if you only want learners who receive below 80% on the quiz to receive an additional attempt, you can enter that value in the&nbsp;<strong>Max %&nbsp;<\/strong>field.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Category: Categories of quizzes can be set up on the Quiz page so that you can organize them into related chunks. For instance, weekly quizzes could be one category and exams another.&nbsp;Important!&nbsp;These categories only pertain to the Quizzes page.&nbsp;<strong>They do not have any relationship to categories in the Grade Book.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email Notifications: To receive notifications when a quiz is completed, enter your (or multiple) email addresses in the&nbsp;<strong>Notification Email<\/strong>&nbsp;box.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"evaluation-feedback\">Evaluation &amp; Feedback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the&nbsp;<strong>Evaluation &amp; Feedback<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down, do any of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To present the students immediately with their quiz grade, select the\u00a0<strong>Auto-publish attempt results immediately upon completion<\/strong>\u00a0checkbox. This setting must be turned on for grades to be automatically sent to the grade book and for the default submission view to be released to users when they complete an attempt.\u00a0<strong>Do not select this if you have Written Response question types. (See alert box above.)<\/strong>You have the option to publish grades after the due date or other time you choose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To have the quiz grades sent to the Grade Book when they are published, select the&nbsp;<strong>Synchronize to grade book on publish<\/strong>&nbsp;checkbox.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To display your learners\u2019 attempt grade and possible answers, under&nbsp;<strong>When published, display to learners,<\/strong>&nbsp;select the&nbsp;<strong>Attempt grade<\/strong>&nbsp;checkbox; and you can choose how you would like questions to be displayed after evaluation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To customize how your quiz results display, click\u00a0<strong>Customize Quiz Results Displays.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To further customize what students see, and when, click&nbsp;<strong>Edit View<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Additional View.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Brightspace-Evaluation-and-Feedback.png\"><\/a><\/strong><br>For example: You wish students to see their score immediately after their attempt, but during class you would like students to be able to view all questions. Create an additional view for specefic date and\/or time period.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important: <strong>If you make edits to Quiz settings after students have taken the quiz, you need to manually publish results again.<\/strong>&nbsp;To do that, click \u201cGrade\u201d from the Quiz drop down menu. By default, you see 20 students. If you have more, change the page to display all of them. This is done at the bottom of the page, e.g. if you have 175 students, choose to display 200. Then, Select All (checkbox at top\/left of roster) and click Publish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"set-accommodations\">Set Accommodations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(This action takes place in a different place in the course.)<br>The good news is that you can set accommodations once, and they will persist for all quizzes (and exams) during the course. To do this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the Course nav bar, click&nbsp;<strong>Grades &amp; Feedback &gt; Classlist<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to each student who has a testing accommodation (you\u2019re notified by the Access Office) and click the down-arrow by their name.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the menu that appears, choose&nbsp;<strong>Edit Accommodations<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the box to&nbsp;<strong>Modify Time Limit<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter the multiplier of original time (usually 1.5).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click&nbsp;<strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You will now see a new icon next to their name. Students who have this will see this icon, too, and when they click it, it will confirm that they\u2019re being given time and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: This is NOT where you adjust one off quiz availability. See above for guidance on quiz availability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"add-a-quiz-link-to-content-activities\">Add a Quiz Link to Content &amp; Activities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Content &amp; Activities, navigate to the module where you want to add the quiz link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From within the module, click the&nbsp;<strong>\u201cExisting Activities\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;button.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scroll down to&nbsp;<strong>Quizzes<\/strong>&nbsp;and select the quiz to add.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"grading-quizzes-and-where-students-see-feedback\">Grading Quizzes <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>View Results and Grade Written Response Questions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most quiz question types are automatically graded by Brightspace. The exception to this is the Written Response question. There are a few ways to approach this, and here is one:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the&nbsp;<strong>Quizzes<\/strong>&nbsp;page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the small arrow next to the Quiz title.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the menu, choose&nbsp;<strong>Grade.<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uvm.edu\/it\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/grading2.png\"><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>On the next page, click the \u201c<strong>Question<\/strong>\u201d Tab to isolate just the written response question(s)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the question to grade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter a grade and feedback then click the arrows to go to the next student\u2019s submission.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-students-see-feedback\">Where Students See Feedback<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s different than assignments. Students can see the grade, only, under Grades and Feedback. For feedback, they should go to Course Tools &gt; Quizzes and next to the quiz, they\u2019ll see&nbsp;<strong>Feedback: On Attempt<\/strong>&nbsp;to the right. It will allow them to view feedback on each attempt, if more than one was allowed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">NOTE: Feedback will only appear if you\u2019ve chosen this setting. When you edit the quiz, under Evaluation and Feedback, select to show \u201cAll questions with correct answers.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"correcting-quizzes-or-resetting-a-students-quiz-attempt\">Correcting Quizzes or Resetting a Students\u2019 Quiz Attempt<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resetting a Quiz to Not Taken <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There might be an occasion where you want to remove a student\u2019s quiz attempt so they can start fresh. These steps will remove their attempt entirely:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Course Tools &gt; Quizzes.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the dropdown menu next to the quiz title and select \u201c<strong>Grade<\/strong>\u201c.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the student(s) and their attempts to reset.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>OR, if you want to reset everyone\u2019s quiz to untaken,&nbsp;<em>make sure everyone is displayed on a single page<\/em>. At the bottom of the page, it may say \u201c20 per page,\u201d so if you have a larger class, choose a display number that will include all students.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the entire roster is shown, select all students and attempts by choosing the top\/left checkbox above the roster.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click \u201c<strong>Reset<\/strong>\u201d just above and confirm \u201c<strong>Yes<\/strong>\u201c<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"correcting-and-regrading-a-quiz\">Correcting and Regrading a Quiz<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you discover that a question is incorrect you can simply eddit it if no one has taken the quiz yet. However, if some or all students have taken it, you\u2019ll have to correct the question, regrade all quiz attempts, and then publish the updated grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"correcting-questions-after-quiz-has-been-taken-by-some-or-all-students\">Correcting questions&nbsp;<em>after<\/em>&nbsp;a quiz has been taken by some or all students<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If there are still students who haven\u2019t taken the quiz, edit the question normally so these students will get the corrected version when they open the quiz. Note: This ONLY corrects it for&nbsp;<em>future attempts<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Course Tools &gt; Quizzes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click the name of the quiz.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the question to edit. Make your change.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"update-questions-grades-on-quizzes-that-have-already-been-taken\">Update questions\/grades on quizzes that have&nbsp;<em>already been taken<\/em>.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to&nbsp;<strong>Course Tools &gt; Quizzes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the dropdown menu for the quiz, choose&nbsp;<strong>Grade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click to view the&nbsp;<strong>Questions<\/strong>&nbsp;tab.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select \u201c<strong>Update All Attempts<\/strong>.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on the question that has to be re-graded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This next part varies according to question type. For a multiple choice question (where the wrong answer was selected to be the correct one), you\u2019ll essentially want to give points to students who chose the actual correct answer and eliminate points if they selected the erroneously-chosen \u201ccorrect\u201d answer. So,\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Give points to attempts with answer X [choose what is&nbsp;<em>actually<\/em>&nbsp;the correct answer] and enter the number of points they should have received for it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now, give to attempts with answer y [the incorrect answer which had been erroneously set as the correct one] and enter 0 points.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Leave a comment explaining the correction in the comment field.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each question type has slightly different options for making adjustments.&nbsp;NOTE: Matching questions settings: If the question was originally set to \u201cAll or nothing\u201d this cannot be changed to partial credit after students have taken the quiz.
