Whose perspective is it from?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The official historical record is nothing true about the women who have been depicted by the white people \u201cThey are only described by others, by the various white men who held power over them; the ships\u2019 surgeons and captains, planters and overseers, immigration agents and magistrates.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What information is missing?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When talking about missing information, I think it is missing a lot of information in there. For example, she mentioned that she had to work hard to find the important information needed but she couldn&#8217;t do it either. Because of the information she has, it&#8217;s not official.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What other types of \u201cdata\u201d does Bahadur use to understand history?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She searched from various sources like \u201c I looked for clues in visual traces and the oral tradition: folk songs, oral histories, photographs and colonial-era postcards, even a traditional tattoo on the forearms of elderly Indo-Caribbean women. Perhaps most daringly, I turned to the self and wrote about my own journeys: to India,&#8230;\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you were to construct an archive of your own family history, what types of data might you review or search for?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I think I&#8217;ll ask my family first and I&#8217;ll find out about places where I was a child with my family.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How the story of Kamala Harris upends the Asian American &#8216;model minority&#8217; stereotype<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What does the author mean by \u201cmodel minority\u201d and \u201canti-model minority?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We can say &#8220;model minority&#8221; is the difference between Asian Americans and people of color, they have different views based on prejudices and patterns in the past.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201canti-model minority\u201d is Asian Americans who have more opportunities to develop and prove themselves.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What evidence does he give us to make his argument?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cthe &#8220;model minority&#8221; stereotype by wearing a &#8220;Math&#8221; lapel pin, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/democratic-debate-september-2019\/h_75201c58384d07e134fe73bbfcfcbc77\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">making joking comments <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">like, &#8220;I am Asian, so I know a lot of doctors.&#8221; His <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/02\/15\/us\/how-andrew-yang-handled-his-asian-american-identity-on-the-campaign-trail.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">platform<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was also based on the belief that individuals can overcome challenging circumstances less through solidarity with other groups and more from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/2020\/02\/andrew-yang-drops-out-in-new-hampshire-his-ideas-survive.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">personal decision making<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> along with at least some government support.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Bahadur: &#8216;How could I write about women whose existence is barely acknowledged?&#8217; &nbsp; What history is Bahadur writing about?\u00a0 She has written history about the women in India who were not treated fairly and their existence was not acknowledged.
