Mi abuela me cuid\u00f3 a m\u00ed y a mis hermanos mayores, mientras mis padres viv\u00edan y trabajaban en Bronx, Nueva York. Desde muy peque\u00f1a ya ten\u00eda en mente que quer\u00eda terminar la escuela y asistir a la mejor universidad de M\u00e9xico. Pero esos sue\u00f1os cambiaron despu\u00e9s. Cuando ten\u00eda 12 a\u00f1os, mi abuela tuvo un derrame cerebral, y aunque recibi\u00f3 atenci\u00f3n m\u00e9dica, falleci\u00f3. Fue realmente devastador para m\u00ed y mis hermanos. En ese momento supimos que ten\u00edamos que volver a Nueva York con mis padres. Yo solo ten\u00eda que subirme a un avi\u00f3n pero mis hermanos ten\u00edan que cruzar la frontera. Tuve muchas emociones encontradas porque todo sucedi\u00f3 en un abrir y cerrar de ojos. Cuando llegu\u00e9 a Nueva York, me sent\u00ed fuera de lugar, especialmente porque ni hablaba ingl\u00e9s con fluidez ni sab\u00eda leerlo ni escribirlo, y tuve que hacer enormes esfuerzos. Pas\u00f3 el tiempo y pasaron muchas cosas. Asist\u00ed a muchos funerales, incluyendo los de mis hermanos. Hubo menos graduaciones de preparatoria de mis familiares. Estas situaciones me hicieron sentir menos motivada. Pero eso cambi\u00f3 m\u00e1s tarde. Obtuve mi GED, tambi\u00e9n conocido como TASC, y ahora soy la primera generaci\u00f3n de mi familia en asistir a la universidad.
